I wouldn't like any romance in the show, but the few good fanfics out their tend to handle the idea quite well, even getting humor out of the idea. And then you got fics like this which just use the shipping elements for comedy.

I think that Cup Cake and Carrot Cake also seem like a pretty loving couple.

And yeah, while I battle to look at an interaction belween Applejack and Rainbow Dash without thinking "they're into each other", I still acknowledge that making a pairing between two of the mane six canon would cause too many problems for me to like it as JT's excellent fanfic shows. That's oneof the reason's that I still support contradictory pairings for them despite it being my "biggest" ship.

But yeah, for me, shipping is always based on how I believe they canonically feel about each other (unless it's a self-imposed challenge or for comedy), so unlike with JT, canon plays a big role in which ships I support.

SOME seemed to cement Rarity appreciating Spike a lot more, but entirely in a "oh, isn't he just adorable", childish way, if their interactions in Dragon Quest are any indication.

How do you explain the other 11/12ths of the body? And I find romances boring too.

I see you've met the least visible regular on the thread, the Dread Arrow Ninja. Though he hasn't been around as much lately as he used to.

My interpretation of Dragon Quest is different from Perpetual's. Rarity now shows more affection to Spike and considers him to be her responsibility almost to the point of ownership. I don't think that she fully thinks of him as her boyfriend yet, but I think she thinks that it is something that has potential to work out and she's not going to be protective of him until she's decided. Her affection without having told him that she's not interested actually cements in my mind that she's considering the possibility. If she wasn't, it would be cruel not to let him down ASAP.

She may want him to become a bit older before thy start dating, admittedly, but he's already mature enogh that the age gap makes little difference and as for being different species, everyone knows that dragons can mate with anything.

She was treating him like a little brother. It would be very creepy if they starting dating.

I figured the species and age barrier meant unescapable freindzone. Hey, Spike, why not hit on someone your own size?

I gotta say I'm not a huge fan of Spike/Rarity; I read the scene in Secret of My Excess less as reciprocating and more as simply letting him know that she's okay with his feelings. Friendzone basically. In Dragon Quest I saw her as treating him more like a child than a peer, so I doubt she'd consider a romantic relationship with him. All of their interactions that I can think of show her treating him more like a little brother than anything else.

Although I'm also a bit biased because I think it's more adorable to ship him with the CMC.

Speaking of which, I think there should be an episode where the CMC and Spike interact a bit more. They're probably closer in terms of age than Spike and the rest of the cast.

I think she definitely friendzoned him. She interrupted him before he could say it to let him know that she knew and that it was OK, but she couldn't reciprocate his feelings.

Maybe Spike and Scootaloo could strike up a friendship.

It would be nice to throw Scoots a bone.

Spike/CMC interaction would be good. But honestly, I believe that Spike has been a full adult ever since Secret of my Excess and wasn't far from one for the earlier parts of the series. He's more mature than the Mane Six a lot of the time and has been biologically an adult already. What more do you want?

EDIT: Rarity's behavious really doesn't look like a friendzoning to me. She never told him that she couldn't reciprocate and even kissed him after he told her how he felt!

That would be interesting, although I think Scootaloo/Rumble is cuter.

I'd like to ship him with Sweetie Belle, but it would be tough to do that without making it look like "Well, I can't get Rarity, so I'll settle for her sister".

Even so, I can't see any aspect of their relationship played as anything but a Precocious Crush. Even though she kissed him, it's less reciprocation and more a reward.
