Thanks. I kinda forgot how many new people we've gotten since I started doing those. I doubt I'll be able to pull it for S3 though. If I do they'll be way shorter.

It's also amusing to note how some of my responses have changed a little. I was fairly ambivalent about Dragon Quest when it first came out, and now I consider it one of the most subpar episodes. It's actually kinda interesting to go back and look at my initial reactions.

@JT - Good points.

You know, to be honest, there wasn't a single episode in the whole series that I found truly great. All of them, with very few exceptions *coughafriendindeedcough*, where entertaining to various degrees, but there was no episode, no, not even a single moment that blew my mind.

Don't worry, Granny, it's just the northern lights!

It made me think of the forest fire at Rose's house.

Actually, I think I agree with you there.

Hello.

There was one moment that I found actually great; the scene where Twilight breaks out of her Discorded state through review of the letters from Celestia. I think that was pretty amazing. The momentum, however, did not last that long because of the rest of the plot being wrapped up so anti-climatically.

I'm mixed to that notion, in that while I agree the show doesn't exactly get overwelming reactions from me, it's more due to the fact nothing in a show really tends to surprise me anymore (I can reference or complain about enough to give the notion otherwise however). There are lots of moments in the show I think are well crafted and memorable, just I don't find myself in awe over them. There are lots of scenes I enjoy watching over and over and over however.

For some reason I remember thinking the ending to Lesson Zero was rather satisfying emotionally however. Maybe it's just because it goes so deeply into Twilight's relations with almost every main character. Or maybe it's because it's such a relatable situation either being or worrying over someone getting told off by a peer.

@Psi - Pretty much. While I find this show very, very, very enjoyable, I have yet to find any awe-inspiring moment.

About Lesson Zero,

I found it really hilarious and I was laughing pretty much the whole time. Then when the Celestia came I realized that it was supposed to be serious. I laughed even harder.

It's just a nice show, and it has surprised me with some exceptionally good writing (Mostly Rarity tongue).

@Psi 001: That's roughly the same way I feel about the show.

And I'm honestly ok with it not being awe inspiring. I'd rather the show be consistently good then go through highs of "wow" and lows of "ugh" which is how I normally feel when I watch shows like Korra.

Writing is good. Never great, though.

It's very written at times, and I'm rather impressed by the twists or extra facets in the development or avoidance of cliches, it's just never to the point I am emotionally overwelmed. Though that is actually one of my higher reactions to shows these days.

Agreed.

Good, but not great. Clever, but not brilliant.

I have to say, though, the Genius Bonus regarding Twilight's BBBFF song is jawdropping.

I have to admit that I've never really been floored either. The only two things that come close to that are the extent of Twi's breakdown in Lesson Zero, and Chrysalis' appearance and subsequent owning of Celestia.

That's okay though. I tend to go for subtlety over a high Holy Shit Quotient anyway, and I think the best aspect of the show is the depth of the characterization. And that's something that develops slowly rather than popping up at any particular moment. Then again, I almost never get emotionally overwhelmed by just about any form of fiction. More than anything, I watch this show because it's fun hanging out with the characters. I never really expect to get blown away.

[up]Same, actually one of the funnest moments is actually looking back and rethinking certain subtle moments in the show that connect and actually add more depth when placed together. There are some fun character traces and gags you just don't see first time round.

I allow myself to be very sentimental sometimes.

Like, especially that part in The Lord of the Rings. You know the one.

Yes, the sublety is the probably the biggest charm of this series. It is just that I have never been satisfied by any episode.

Really, one of my favorite things is watching the subtleties in the characterization develop. If there's one aspect of the show that I think really does set it apart from other shows aimed at the same age bracket is the way the characters are rounded out. The other elements are pretty good, but I really do think the characterization is quite amazing. Yes, the show lacks those "big moments" but it makes up for it by including small elements throughout the scenes that would just be dull in other shows.

Like Mio said, it aims for a consistent degree of quality rather than being mindblowing in some aspects and meh in others.

I suppose, I am not looking for the right thing in the right series.

I've allways liked the series for the animation, the humor, the charectors and the fandom {Including how the fandom handles Background ponys}. All the subtle stuff is great as well.

It also showed me how ironic it is that a kids show is alot more funny, intreasting and creative then shows that think shock humor alone is funny without putting actual effort into the jokes themselves, or shows that use to be good but lost their charm and started trying to be "Edgy".tongue

I liked Sweet and Elite because of the way they subverted the stock plot.

The show just wows, amazes, and warms my heart all the time, their's just to many amazingly emotional moments for me to name. I know it's not perfect, but it's still damn good, and you can tell the writers are really putting a lot of effort into the stories, and the whole world of Equestria is just so rich, vibrant and alive. Really once again most of the time it really does feel like we're watching a recording of what is actually happening in some other place then.
