I imagine it caqme about because she would have been referred to as Pinkmena back on the farm, when her hair was straight.

Also, I'm fairly pro-alcohol in the setting as well. The girls don't drink, and that's reasonable enough, but pony culture closely mimics are own enough that I think some for of inebriation is inevitable. And if horses like alcohol, well then...

I just got a new idea for the pirates of my story. The girls were united by the Sonic Rainboom? My lads were united by the wonder rum they made...which is a sort of 'super liquid' that can be used for anything...including fuel and medicine.

Yeah, I'm trying to get back into the forum. At the moment I'm just sitting at work, waiting for shit to load. Haven't been able to do anything all morning.

The idea sounds pretty cool! How commonplace is the rum going to be, though? Is it going to be something that takes a lot of preparation? You ought to be careful that it doesn't become something you just rub on the plot to make the good guys win.

Perhaps it could be an adapted recipe from the past that survived to the present, and there's a villain who wants the recipe for their own ends.

Also uou could balance the recipe by needing an expensive or otherwise rare ingredient.

Still looking forward to John's brony documentary.

Ah, I hate that. It's like pulling teeth.

As to the Rum, it is not common. It takes an age to make, and only the crew know how to make it. And they never seem to have enough of it.

It's not SO bad. I'm using the time to do some research for the story I'm working on at the moment. Ethology is very interesting!

But that sounds good, as far as the special rum goes. Stuff like that you just have to worry about it being a plot coupon, heh. So, do you have any sort of overall plot for this thing yet? Or is it just ADVENTURES?

Meh, I'm neutral on the "they have booze" question, can see it going either way, mostly cause it's entirely possible they simply never developed the idea to ferment drinks. Alcohol was first used as a way to purify water, the fermentation process killed all the harmful bacteria in the water, making it safe to drink. It's possible they either A. never needed to purify their water, or B. Went the Asian route and instead boiled it and made tea instead of fermenting it.

Plus it takes A LOT more alcohol per mass to get a equine drunk then it does a human.

It takes a lot of beer to get a human drunk, You don't see that stopping any humans from trying. Also remember that Alcohol is based off of mass, Ponies are actually quite small (Only 3 feet tall and a little longer). as opposed to horses which are fairly large relative to humans

I think it was said somewhere by word of god that although ponies COULD get drunk (Implying alcohol exists), it's societally frowned upon.

Yeah, there's an overarching plot. But it's not nearly developed enough to explain.

But it's a Shonen series, so there will be great action scenes...both in personal combat and airship to airship combat. But I aim to break with tradition, by:

A, avoiding one on one combat and including more team efforts.

B, not making the main hero a dumbass.

Just going to note, wasn't the "official" word on alcohol something like "nopony approves of boozing it up" or something. That doesn't imply "no alcohol in the setting" so much as "getting drunk is looked down upon". Then again, I could just be misremembering.

I'd say, if they do have alcohol, that drinking a bit to relax is fine, but drinking till you get flat out drunk is frowned on.
