I don't get the hate either; already, this is one of my favorite episodes, if not the favorite. I'll admit that it has it's issues* , but it's definitely no worse than the first season.

@Moe: I don't think it's been said in show that I can remember, but she did get a MacDonald's toy, so it's not like it was a fan name or anything.

I guess I now know why I basically try not to care too much about too many things at once, and/or drown my concentration by deliberately multitasking, it's a way to break up my inner obsessiveness. Granted, I also satiate it by developing an addiction to collecting stuff, imageboards, troping, and watching Let's Play collections, so I'm self-medicating in both directions.

I still consider Alicorn Filly to be Lauren's newest daughter and Celestia and Luna's newest kid sister.

It felt different. I'm not sure if it's the direction, the writing or whatever, but somehow it felt different.

Guess it's safe to say the latest episode surpasses "Party of One" in terms of creepiness. Not only is Twilight's temporary insanity unnerving, it actually affects Ponyville's population.

That said, these aspects do make the episode feel somewhat out of place in the show's run, but that's not to say I didn't like it. I found Twilight's anal retentive behavior going out of control hilarious at times when her crazyface wasn't creeping me the hell out.

Also, the ticking windmill was a nice touch.

Season 2 was already scripted because the fandom appeared, so only the smaller animation elements can be nods to the fandom, like Rainbow's glasses, or Derpy, but larger things lthe overall plot can't be a result of intentionally changing the direction. People are just overthinking it.
