I was so afraid of The Mummy as a kid.

Should not have watched it when I was 6.

The bugs were what got me most, man. Urg, those things...

But holy shit, the 3rd movie sucked, Jet Li or no Jet Li.

[up][up]Well, technically, yeah, it does scare me, because of how terrible it is. Seriously, screw Manos The Hands of Fate, Barney deserves the definition of "Deep Hurting".

[up]As for The Mummy, yeah, I guess it can be terrifying when you're 6, but it gets a lot better as you can now handle the level the horror the film has to offer. Whether the quality of the film matters, is anyone's guess, but even if it was bad, it would just be "boring" to me, and not rage-inducing like anyone Barney is. And because of I have suffered, and according to may other people, it is one of, if not the only franchise that I have NO RESPECT for anyone who has a positive opinion of it. And I don't say that for a lot of things.

[up][up]See, I can understand why that would be traumatizing.

[up]So you're claiming you were traumatized because a show directed for preschoolers was just really really lousy? I mean, if it were something like FATAL I could understand that. But I don't think "I don't like this work" really qualifies. In any case, quality is highly subjective anyway. Just because you really hate something doesn't mean people who like it are somehow wrong.

@JT: Now I can't tell if you're being sarcastic.

@x: I did not get along with any of the other special needs kids, but I never got along with anybody, really. Was it really such a bad experience for you? I am sorry high school sucked so hard. Focusing on Barney is confusing the issue, though.

@Con: No, I'm being serious; I can totally understand why watching something like The Mummy at a young age could freak somebody out.

I'm also still confused by his insistence on dragging Barney into this when literally the only connection is that "MLP and Barney happen to air concurrently on one network that most of the fanbase doesn't watch anyway".

@x Would you consider "good for its target demographic and nothing else" a positive opinion of it? I guess you have no respect for me, then. tongue

Yeah, even if I don't like Barney (I honestly haven't seen it in so long I have no clue what it's actually quality is), I've always been averse to ragging on people just because they happen to like something I don't. I mean, I think stuff like Twilight is drivel, but if somebody enjoys it and isn't being a douche about it, I feel like I ought to respect their taste, if even if I disagree with it.

Also, I'd like to point out that I did some searches for Barney on Derpibooru. I didn't get anything. Sure I might have missed one or two, but if all bronies are actually Barney fans, I'd expect something to come up.

[up][up][up]Nope, there have been numerous reports that it's not even good for that demographic, like that one report that it was made solely for kids to watch TV and offer no educational value whatsoever. And I don't think I should have to bring up that one video where it looks like Barney's teaching the kids how to give a blowjob instead of brushing their teeth.

[up]Also, at least there, it may not be good, but at least it's still in their age range, and not 20-somethings watching shows made strictly for toddlers, like my experiences. Mars Attacks!? Ha! I feel better for being afraid of Dr. Seuss now. [lol]

Plus, those goddamn aliens and the 2 headed creature from Sesame Street. They were the tenants of my nightmares.

[up] Are you equating educational value with entertainment value? In my experience, there is typically an inverse correlation between the two.

Still the fact that someone you know likes an unrelated show so you hate MLP is a really weird chain of logic.
Life is simple: it has no nontrivial normal subgroups.

[up][up][up]Well, it's kind of irrelevant anyway because MLP isn't related to Barney in any way outside of one particular network airing them together. I think shows should be judged on their own merits rather than on the shows that air before or after them.

Also, this? It's making fun of Barney. If anything that runs counter to your point because the whole joke in that picture is "Barney is horrible". Also, one specific picture doesn't prove anything about the fanbase at large. All it proves is "one person happens to have seen the show, didn't like it, and made a joke image".

[up]I don't get it either.

@x I remember being quite motivated to properly brush my teeth and clean up after myself by that show at the age of five. If it has no educational value, then what, exactly, is it teaching?

And it still fails to explain how any of this is associated with MLP outside of the one of the main characters being purple.

You know, in my family, we watch Modern Family and The Middle. In between those 2 shows, the network airs a boring unfunny sitcom that we DON'T watch.

I have never watched every single show aired on a single network.

I don't know about that, Steve. I am having fun.

I like unraveling bizarre chains of logic, and x is giving me an awful lot of practice.

Still not sure if you're serious, as you are straining the benefit of the doubt to the outer extremities.

He still hasn't answered how friendship + purple protagonist = Barney, because by that logic, so does Courage the Cowardly Dog.
