I also don't really get what's up with the Derpy/Doctor Whooves pairing. It kinda seems like a Crack pairing to me, and I have no idea where it came from.
According to some sources, his name is Doctor Hooves. So they already have the same last name.
Also, I like the explanation from Sereg's fanfic that Derpy's eyes are misaligned because she got caught in an explosion of time magic and now one of her eyes sees nine seconds into the future.
Sure, I could come up with my own take on his personality, but since I'm the only person who would ever use it, I don't think it's worth the trouble.
I like "Dr. Hooves as Equestria's version of The Doctor", but I'd also be interested in seeing an interpretation of him as a truly separate character.
The trading card did say he's in charge of clocks and "all things timey-wimey", and he flipped the hourglass for the cider-making competition, so him being a professional timekeeper makes sense. And Equestria needs professional timekeepers because sunrise and sunset are subject to Celestia's whims.
Now I'm wondering what Dr. Hooves and the other professional timekeepers were doing during "The Return of Harmony"—what sort of measures they took to keep their clocks accurate during Discord's rampage.
MCs on the paper with their murder metaphors need to deal with the literal resurrector.
