@Wryte: AJ accuses Mac of using 'his fancy mathematics' to 'muddle the issue' when he tells her she can't handle the entire orchard by herself. On one hand, it's not really math, but on the other, it does sound kind of like AJ is used to Mac using fancy mathematics.

Well, somepony has to handle the finances. Apple Bloom obviously doesn't, Applejack has trouble just counting, and Granny Smith is borderline senile, which means that Big Macintosh has to be at least competent or the farm would have crashed a long time ago.

I'm like Big Mac, really. I'm not strong, but I am silent. And shy around the ladies. If I resembled any of the mane 6 I would be Twilight (neurotic) or Fluttershy (non-assertive). And I don't need a pony personality test to figure that out.

why are you identifying with the mane 6 based on negative traits?

I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Gray.

At Twenty pages in, Dorian is adorable. I want to kidnap him and keep him as a pet. I'd ruffle his curly blond hair and make him fetch sticks for me.

Anyways, I really like the idea of Big Mac being the smart one of his family. I don't know why, I just really like it. I guess it resonates with the harmonies of my mind.

@blissey: I guess it's easier to point out my flaws than my virtues. And those immediately came to mind. I guess I'm a fairly good listener like Fluttershy.

@Atc Isn't that the guy who puts his soul in a portrait and never ages or something?

@ed I usually find it easier to point out flaws in things than to find the bright side. Maybe that's a common trait.

Heck yes, it's so blatant. Poor Basil pretty much has his whole soul and life revolve around Dorian. Lord Henry is a jerk, though.

@Sky strike: Yes. It's really, really well-written. Oscar Wilde is not counted as one of the great authors for nothing.

Apparently, I have the Second Version, which has almost all the Ho Yay removed. Darn.

You know, for my English Ho Yay essay, I did some research and found out that Basil's line "Somehow I have never loved a woman" was removed by editors, only to be reinserted into modern editions.

I saw the 2009 film adaption, too. Basil and Dorian totally make out, and Basil gives Dorian a blowjob offscreen.

280 pages of thick prose, or is it a good read?

It's a pretty quick read, besides the chapter of Padding added by editorial mandate.

280 pages of prose that flows naturally, like something someone would actually say out loud. It has very good rhythm, much of it is simple, yet wise.

Wilde says a lot in a few sentences, and he makes those few sentences flow as well as possible.
