Come to think of it, a coloring book was the only Friendship is Magic merchandise I've ever actually seen in any stores around here. Ever. They're still trying to clearance the G3 stuff.

There's not a Walmart close to where I live. We do our grocery shopping at Jewel.

Not that I recall. I even checked in what looked like clearance.

It's an odd feeling being the only one who's got a Pony Power poster. I will admit, the poster's nice, but it's still awkward as hell walking around the girl's toys aisle looking for them.

I tried several times looking for the pony power posters. Even in the loneliest of Wal-Marts I still run into at least one pack of kids who actively discourage more in depth searching.

Is this a specific poster they sell?

They actively tell people not to?

well, I read The Powers of Harmony. The Mane 6 begin to gain superpowers based on their elements. Although it's not really superpowers so much as class abilities straight outa D&D. Pretty epic scale plot they've got going so far, with much referencing and elaboration upon the whole celestia/luna war 1000 years ago. Very much enjoying it.

However, there's one thing that I can see other very much not enjoying about it. Chronologically, it seems to take place really early on in the series, at the very latest before sonic rainboom. But it was written very recently. Consequently, it plays kinda fast and loose with various elements of cannon. Particularly with Fluttershy.

Wouldn't it taking place earlier give it more leeway to play with canon?

well, yeah, if you wanna look at it logically. but you know how some people feel about fanon deliberately ignoring canon. Some members of this very thread, infact...

@Blissey: Well, alternate timestreams are a pretty interesting way to do things. Maybe their intent was to see how things would have diverged if things went down differently at certain point in the chronology or something.

I've never gotten into fanfiction, but that one sounds so cute. I think I'll check it out later.

What bugged me about Powers of Harmony wasn't messing with canon — sure, go nuts. It was introducing thirteen guards in a very short space of time, most of whom were too bland to remember on an individual basis, and then never really taking the time to develop more than about three of them.

I mean I get that it's a Zodiac theme and you can't really cut that down without losing something, but it just feels like it was a doomed plan, you know?

That's the thing, it's not just events and such that are different. I guess the best way to explain is to elaborate on the whole "particularly with Fluttershy" thing.

in the story, Fluttershys dad was a normal equestrian pegasus, but her mother was a different breed of pegasus based on the Albatross. As a result of this, Fluttershys actual wingspan is twice the length of her body. so she is a really weak conventional flier, but is able to glide like a pro.

Now I just wanna say again, I have no problem with this. I think it's kinda neat. But I can see some people getting really turned off by a change to such a fundamental thing.

eh, the story's still ongoing, I'm sure the others will get more development.

I know. Again, that's not what bugs me so much as the huge pile of important but mostly uncharacterized new guys.

Sounds like Homestuck, except it actually did develop all 12 characters. Some of them never did anything really important, but they all were very well developed.

The albatross Fluttershy thing sounds kind of cool, is there fanart for it?

@Blue It's not uncommon for pegasus fan art to draw the wings huge for no real reason, so it shouldn't be hard to find.
