I admit I've always been fond of the Doctor/Derpy pairing, even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense as far as Doctor Who goes.

Then again, nothing really makes a whole lot of sense in Doctor Who.

he one we know was intentional was in Putting Your Hoof Down, with Lyra and Bon Bon having a little background scene together, complete with Bon Bon wearing saddlebags with Lyra's cutie mark on the clip.

The scene with Lyra, Bonbon and Derpy by the well was also pretty clearly intentional.

It is overdone, but that's because Odd Couple-style dynamics are fun. There's nothing inherently bad with the pairing aside from how common it is nowadays.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the pairing outside of the fact that so many people use it for stuff that it isn't really original. Like Red said, their generally accepted personalities are different enough that it's a fun dynamic to work with.

I think it's more of an issue in a fic context than a casual shipping context. You can't take more that two steps on Fimfiction without tripping over a Octavia/Vinyl fic.
