Hold on, something just occurred to me.

When all of the ponies got deharmonized, they stopped using the element they represented - applejack stopped telling the truth, fluttershy stopped being nice, etc. Twilight's element is magic - but she didn't stop using magic when she was deharmonized.

My headcanon says that the sixth element isn't magic, or at least not pure, arcane might. After all, no one knew what the last element was, and when it appeared, Twilight just seems to decide it's magic. So, I like to think it's "friendship", or something, more than it is "magic".

Also, is canadian TV a bit too over sensitive? I mean, Lauren said "egghead" was really close to not being accepted by network executives, but "loser" and "jerk" being too much for canada? WHAT?!

Just what the hell do Media Watchdogs think, that kids need to be protected from all words negative? "Loser" and "jerk" are milder than "doo doo head" for fucks sake. Not to mention more mature ways of dissing someone than "doo doo head."

Exactly! So, she stopped being a friend while she was "Discord-ed", but reading her letters reminded her how to be a friend, and she broke the spell that way.

It didn't seem like the others had FORGOTTEN anything, it was their personality that got altered.

Because they are interchangeable. Note the name of the show.

@Ginger: I just had another thought about that. Each of the Discordant ponies (save for Fluttershy) has been convinced in some way that their friendship isn't worth it - Applejack thinks it's doomed, Rarity thinks they're after her stuff, Rainbow Dash thinks it'll threaten the survival of Cloudsdale, Pinkie Pie thinks they're all laughing at her, and Twilight is frankly fed up with them being jerks. The purpose of the memory spell is to reinforce the good times and remind everypony that yes, it's worth fighting for.

Wow, there's more bronies at my school than I thought. Today was National Coming Out Day, and one of the things on their Facebook page said something like "Do you watch My Little Pony?" There was an angry brony complaining on the page. Everyone was given stickers to say something secret about them, and I saw several "I watch My Little Pony" stickers.

Canadian TV seems less paranoid towards older kids' shows (we get to have gay people!). But since they think this is for toddlers, maybe everything is so baaaad because it will break them forever.

I don't think we'd see any shadows though. The ponies weren't exactly rejecting a part of themselves. More, they were brainwashed into forgetting about it.

It's not necessarily what you think. Canadian TV actually is pretty lax when it comes to censors. Hell, we've been getting South Park uncensored for the last several years. It's just that when it comes to MLP, Corus Entertainment (Treehouse' owners) decided to make one of the worst possible scenarios for acquiring the show and put it on the one channel that no one over 8 would be caught dead watching. I definitely think this is a bad choice on their part, especially since I saw one American ad saying it was rated TV-Y7, while the Canadian equivalent is C8, so they're overtargeting a bit and censoring it. And for a "preschooler" channel that aired all the Land Before Time movies there were in 2006, all of them uncensored, INCLUDING the first one, this is really, really unacceptable. I guess they've been taking South Park too seriously. "Horrific, deplorable violence is okay, as long as people don't say any naughty words!"

EDIT: Also, it seems they're not really professionals when it comes to ensuring that it's their programs on the air, A promo◊ for an adult movie called 30 Days of Night came up one day during one of their shows. I've also heard reports of them accidentally switching to The Ring and The Lost Boys during their broadcasting. You know, for kids! I know the mistake was unintentional but it just shows you that if you're going to go ahead and do that, you have no excuse whatsoever for the bowdlerizations to MLP.

I agree; individually Discord could take them out, but when they were together he loses that power. Twilight returning the memories of when they were still together was enough to break Discord's control.

Long story short: discord made them all think "why are we friends?" and Twilight pretty much barged in saying "BITCH this is why! MEMORY SPELL GO!"
