Huh, so Celestia and Luna aren't the only princesses? I wonder why she wasn't mentioned before.

I still stand by my headcanon that Celestia/Luna are the only immortal rulers.

I stand by my headcanon that there are many immortal rulers but only 10 immortal Alicorn rulers representing, the sun, the moon, the eight planets (not counting Earth) and Pluto.

@Roy: I'm going to assume you reside in the United States. Probably for the same reason you probably don't know all of your senators or governors as well as your president. Celestia is known for her unmatched rule in the last 1000 years and Luna is know with her recent return. Cadence most likely rules Equestria (or a part of it) along with Celestia, but Celestia has a more noticeable influence than Cadence.

OOC: I forget; was there any mention of other planets in the show?

Or, judging by the hints from season 3, she's the displaced ruler of the Crystal Empire.

And i'm going with her NOT being an immortal, goddess type alicorn, simply because it would suck for her and SA if he got old and she didn't.

Princess Cadence is the sole living survivor of the ruling family of the Crystal Empire. Now that she's married, she & Shining Armor must return to the Crystal Mountains of the Frozen North to bring the Crystal Kingdom to its former glory, only to be distracted by Season Premiere/Finale shenanigans.

Well we know she ages, because we saw her younger in Twilight's flashbacks.

@D Roy: Because the show isn't really big on foreshadowing. Twilight's brother is never mentioned until the episode he shows up as well.

The Crystal Fashion Style Princess Cadance & Shining Armor toy set tells us that "Princess Cadance and Shining Armor share a big responsibility! They lead the Crystal Empire together!" and the Crystal Princess Ponies Collection toy set tells us that "Princess Celestia and Princess Luna believe that Princess Cadance will bring happiness to the Crystal Empire!"

And if we go by toys, there going to have a foal named Princess Skyla soon.

I don't think that even Celestia is immortal. She just ages hundreds of times slower than ordenary ponies. I believe that Cadance also ages slower, but not nearly as much.

And then there was me.

I personally think that she's immortal, just young. I don't buy the whole association with celestial bodies thing though, because the geocentric cosmology of that solar system is not conducive to having the exact same planets as our solar system.

I'm basically in the camp of "we don't really have enough info to say one way or the other". Normally I'd try to formulate a consistent theory about it, but given that we may get more info on Cadence's origins in season 3, I'm going to wait.

At the moment I lean toward Cadence been sort of lower-class alicorn. Celestia and Luna are the only two full alicorns, so they get the uber long lifespan and celestial body control. Cadance has both magic and flight and is probably more powerful than the average pony, but I don't think she's as powerful as Celestia or Luna.

I remember hearing that the meteor shower in Owl's Well wouldn't work unless it was Heliocentric. Combined with the constellations being the same and Occam's Razor (or the thing that says it's the same unless stated otherwise) I think their Solar System is pretty much the same as ours.

I assume Cadance is the same deal as Luna and Celestia, whatever that deal actually is. We've seen nothing that would imply otherwise.

She wasn't mentioned to have any duties during the finale, but considering she was in the middle of making sure her wedding went smoothly, I wouldn't expect her to be doing any actual work. Considering her love powers and the fact that she is sent to the foreign Crystal Kingdom I wouldn't be surprised to learn that she is a royal ambassador.

Like that would even matter.

Celestia and Luna are the only "true" alicorns, as in a blending of all three pony types. Cadance is just a winged-unicorn, no earth pony.

Except we know that the sisters controll the sun and moon. The meteor shower could work fine, al that has to happen is Luna wills it to happen.

Why would a meteor show not work? All it is is space debris passing through the atmosphere and burning up. Not to mention that if all Celestia and Luna did was turn the planet, then there wouldn't be any distinction between them and their roles.

most meteor showers are the result of the earth passing through a cloud of space debris, if the planet doesn't move, no way for it to do so.

unless the sun and moon are both far orbiting the planet, which in turn is still moving through space.

@ Lurker: I don't know why it wouldn't work I'm not an Astronomer. And the difference could quite easily be that Luna makes the moon orbit, Celestia either makes the planet orbit the sun or maintains the sun.
