The really strange part is that he's just called Ahuizotl, raising the question of what the species name is.

I am disappointed to see that they do not have a popular culture section with MLP under it.

@d Roy I don't know about you, but aside from being brightly colored, I found that Ahuizotl fit the description of the mythological creature exactly.
