All this talk of geography has got me wondering. What did the "world" look like in the olds days of G1 through G3? Have there ever been any maps in the show?

@Will: I have no idea.

So far my mythology link goes only as far as placing Dream Valley in part of San Palomino Desert, still lifeless milennia after the Smooze attack, and Flutter Valley is in the Badlands, where the Changelings spawned from.

As for the timeline, G1 happens after a turbulent apocalyptic scenario that left Emperor Tirac in charge. Ponies inherited the Earth after making him taste the Rainbow. Tales is their future, and G3 shows the start of their decline after being spoiled by too many years of safe technological sloth. Cutie Pox destroyed their Civilisation and Love Poison reduced them to the Three Tribes after serious fiascos that resulted in civil war and gutted the Royal Family forcing Princess Platinum to the crown underage, and history as they know it begins there.

Probably about as vague ans ill-defined as the G4 world looked before the map came out (and even then I feel the map is subject to change).

Seriously though, the map has really got me excited. I'll have to study it in detail on my next day off.

Two things about the map: 1, I bet that the "Frozen North" is where the old pony nations used to be, before the Windigoes came. 2, now Canterlot reminds me even more of Minas Tirith because it's at the tip of a range of mountains XD

Chrysalis's mother is imprisoned in Tartaurus, placed there by Luna some years before she went Nightmare Moon.
