I would say that the fact that in Hurricane Fluttershy, RD did not know that Fluttershy was still being bullied would suggest that the whole "defend her honor" thing was a one off sort occurrence and that nothing really happened between them afterwards. I don't get the impression that they were anymore then distant acquaintances in school.

RD got kicked out of flight school, didn't she? So it's likely that the bullying we saw in Hurricane happened after RD was gone. They could have been friendly up until that point, then lost contact, and reconnected after both wound up in Ponyville.

You could probably subdivide Ponyville into sub-territories like, say:

  • Northwest Rail Station
  • Market Square
  • East Residential
  • West Residential
  • Southeast Rail Station
  • Sweet Apple Acres
  • Apple Orchard (North)
  • Apple Orchard (South)

Rainbow dropped out of flight school, actually, she wasn't forced out.

Either she couldn't stand being told what to do all the time or she was already flying at a higher level than what they were teaching her so she felt like she was wasting time there. Probably a little of both.

I just thought of a potential Aesop where Rainbow Dash is used to explain why dropping out of school is bad. I can't decide whether that'd be awful or... yeah, it'd be awful.

RD was actually present in Fluttershy's flashback so it did happen while she was still there.

[up][up]I get the impression in Sonic Rainboom that she was probably pretty close to being thrown out anyway for anyone of a number of reasons.

[up]I think we actually have speculated on the idea of Dash getting the Flight School equivalent of a GED. I think it could work.

It's actually Flight Camp not flight school. I don't think it was an official thing you had to go to, just an extracurricular thing that parents send their kids to during summer or something. I really doubt pegasi need flying licenses.

Filly Twilight is the best thing ever colon three.

Well, going too fast could disrupt birds, and you certainly don't want pegasi crashing into each other.

Well, RD would have been thrown in jail by now if they had a policing system.

Well, if you want to get technical, Twilight's talent is "Magic" and Photo Finish's talent is "ZE MAGICS!", so that could kinda make sense

Yes, but that just proves my point. It explains how the same mark canbe interperted in different ways.

I realise that this is going to seem overly pedantic, but I think that it's the other way around. Ponies don't get a cutie mark that they then interpret, they interpret their talent which is then written on their flank in the language of cutie marks.

Twilight and Photo Finish both saw the thing that they're best at as "magic" so hey got a cutie mark that means "magic". They apply their talent differently, but their cutie mark still means the same thing.

I see nothing wrong with Cheerilee's cutie mark definition. It just means that they can be abstract with arbitrary boundries.

[up]wouldn't that mean that cutie marks are then a language unto themselves? Like Hieroglyphics or something?

well, at any rate, it's bedtime for me. Night all!

That is exactly what I mean. It would pretty much be one of the most difficult languages ever to learn though as every concept has its own symbol.

I think the analogy fails in that cutie marks are very interpretative. Two ponies can have the same symbol, but still have different meanings.

I think?
