In fact I expect even Flutters and Dash would have initially disliked each other. I can see Rainbow being a bit of a bully and being really pissed off at how weak and fearful Fluttershy was.

Kind of a Vriska/Tavros relationship.

@Meta: *shrug* Still, you would think their tensions would be more obvious then they were.

She still did for sometime if season one was any indication. It really makes me wonder why the "Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are old friends" fanon is so common.

They were probably acquainted, but they never spent a great deal of time together before the pilot (Except Fluttershy and RD probably).

"Applebuck Season" was episode 4. "Winter Wrap Up" was episode 11. "Fall Weather Friends" was episode 13. Either an entire year passed between episodes 4 and 13, or events were depicted out of order.

Re: Anachronic Order: The Gala dresses made in Episode 14 "Suited For Success" appear very briefly in Episode 10 "Swarm of the Century". Also, if you believe the magazine story The Magic of Friendship, Episode 16 "Sonic Rainboom" must've taken place when Twilight and Spike hadn't lived in Ponyville very long. And those are just the confirmed instances; here's what Word Of God has said on the matter.

Filly Rainbow Dash raced to defend filly Fluttershy's honor.

I just remembered. In "Griffon the Brush Off", Pinkie was acquainted enough with Fluttershy to know that pranking her was going too far. Yet Rainbow Dash was apparently okay with pranking Fluttershy, and had to be restrained by Pinkie. Hmm.

RD and FS had been friends (or maybe just "us against the world" acquaintances) in flight school, but they lost contact with each other not long after gaining their cutie marks, and only reconnected shortly before Twilight came to Ponyville.

Almost through Season 1, finally. Just watch episode 22. Philomena is such a troll :P

I would say that the fact that in Hurricane Fluttershy, RD did not know that Fluttershy was still being bullied would suggest that the whole "defend her honor" thing was a one off sort occurrence and that nothing really happened between them afterwards. I don't get the impression that they were anymore then distant acquaintances in school.

@Story: It stands for Moirallegiance. It's a Homestuck thing. I'll let someone else explain because I'm playing Bastion and it's really mindscrewy right now.

For a programmer it's weird because <> means not equal.

Moiraillegiance. It's a form of alien romance from Homestuck. Rather than sex or procreation, it involves sharing all your feelings with your partner. Typically it pairs someone strong and aggressive with someone weaker and level-headed. The level-headed one acts as a Morality Chain on the aggressive one, holding their destructive tendencies in check. The aggressive one defends the level-headed one from the outside world while also encouraging them to be more assertive.

Well it stands for diamonds, like in a deck of cards. There are these aliens, and they have 4 distinct types of romance called quadrants. Each of the 4 suits is used as a shorthand for them... wait a minute, I'm in the middle of a boss fight I shouldn't be explaining this!

Basically, it sums up the Fluttershy/Dash relationship pretty well.

And I got ninja'd anyway, good.
