Ah, since Surprise has such a different personality I thought the cutie mark might be different. I suppose you can still have the same talent and be a very different person though.

Nothing stops shippers. Torpedoes, droughts, more successful competition, they all just make them try harder.

In regards to TLRU, I think the other girls were justified in their approach because it would be a reasonable assumption that Applejack already knows that ponies would miss her, the farm would need her, etc. They knew something had to have happened at the rodeo to make AJ want to stay away, and without knowing what it was they couldn't know how to try and get her to come back.

Remember, it wasn't the fact that ponies would miss her or that the farm needed her that got her to come back, that was just icing on the cake. What got her to come back was convincing her that nopony cared that she didn't win the competition, and they couldn't have done that without knowing that she didn't win (especially considering Cherry Jubilee had made it sound like Applejack did win when the subject came up the first time).

We were discussing AFID and TLR, but now that seems to be winding down. We're kind of discussing Surprise, and that Thor pony is here.

@JT Surprise in Moe's fic is literally Surprise straight out of G1, IIRC and that's how the ponies work there.

@Wyrte: I disagree that reminding her of what she was leaving behind wouldn't have been effective since sometimes it is very easy for people to rationalize away the feelings of others when they aren't actually there.

Also even if Cheery Jubilee did make it seem like she won somepony should have asked her where the prize money was if she had indeed done so well. After all that was the original reason she went.

No, that old cartoon was full of lies and misinformation. Cutie Marks work the same everywhere. Just I was somehow born with mine. That's how I got my name.

My head canon is that the same cutie mark can represent a lot of different talents. How else do you explain Twilight and Photo Finish, or the plethora of duplicate marks among bg ponies?

Well considering there are literally duplicates of the background ponies often hanging out in the same crowd, I think there are bigger questions to ask...

And you can't say Changelings are the answer. The other ponies still ought to notice when there are two Lyras within 10 feet of each other.

@Mio: I'm, like, 90% certain that they did point those things out to her before trying to annoy the information out of her, and it didn't work. I'd have to watch again to be 100%, though.

Dup marks meaning different things? Then I wonder what that white stallion Orion's mark means.
