I don't think pony fanstuff is right out, huh? I mean, it's still ponies. Also I talk merch (and am still waiting for the Hasbro restock, c'mon I want more blindbag pone)

Flash: Mane 3 (From Children of the Night Fanwerks)

There is fanworks of children of the night already? It isn't even out yet!

Oh you mean an update on Children of the Night itself. Speaking of which, horaay for insomnia.

It would be funny if Pinkie did understand what they were talking about. Like it turns out she's some kind of idiot savant.
Heh, I could see this happening. Certainly concepts such as possible world semantics, or the variant of it in which you don't have to consider only possible worlds, but also impossible ones (that's a perfectly legit thing, and pretty useful to deal with some difficulties in certain variants of modal logic) would have very little difficulty for her... tongue

Question about the "On Topic" thing: does this mean that we can only talk about pony-related stuff, as we are doing now, or that we can only talk about the show? The latter would be a bit restrictive, seeing as there are no new episodes yet...

If worse comes to worse, I could migrate back to the Yack Fest thread or something, but eh — this thread is entertaining.

Repost because Applestems harnesses weapons-grade cuteness in their humanizations :3

@Carcio: Just stick around both threads :V

I think what we're doing now is fine. Just keep things related to ponies and try not to derail too much.

Well, they exist in the same general region, so why not? Some ships start on less than that. tongue

I also wonder about the infrastructure for weather over the frontier towns like Dodge and Appleloosa. Do they have a smaller weather factory in the neighborhood or something? Or do they just haul large rainclouds over when needed?

Maybe EP settlers are capable of growing food without weather, it's just less efficient.

For places like Appleloosa, where there's an apple farming industry, I'm sure they plan regular shipments of rain clouds. Probably the same in Dodge Junction, since there's a fairly large cherry orchard there.

I'm just amazed they could grow fruit trees in the Desert.

EDIT: [up]I'll accept that.

In general, the environment manipulation abilities of ponies are something impressive. I still maintain that "Winter Wrap Up" is the perfect way to introduce kids to the field of Environmental Engineering.

I have a feeling they might know where to find groundwater in the absence of pegasi. The main thing is that a frontier town with even a couple of pegasi around would be able to enjoy just a little more cloud cover.

I was going to mention groundwater, but I thought that goes without saying.

@Carcio: Actually, the dragon letting off smoke in Dragonshy and causing air pollution reminded me of the haze we have to endure every year over here because of open burning in Indonesia.

Of course, the reason why the bison would use the grounds about Appleloosa as stampede land would be the groundwater/oasis sources in the area, a nice refreshment after a long run. The loose dry loam-soil that the Appleloosans used might have been prized for being easy on bison hooves.

Also this brings up the question of why ponies need to be that good at terraforming/environment management.

@Ed: Yeah, it certainly does [lol]

Another thing that occured to me is that the Souothwest US has a monsoon season each summer. Maybe in desert places like Appleloosa, they get lots of pegasi to come in once a year to provide rain.

I wonder if we'll ever see a tropical or alpine climate in the show :D Mayhap have Cadence and Shiny come back from a very satisfying honeymoon to find out that Cadence needs to return to her motherland to reclaim her rightful crown.

@Ace: Obviously it comes in handy when you don't live in more temperate areas like Ponyville.

Hmm, I wonder if there's a way to use MLP as an educational aid. You can obviously teach kids mythology with it. I wonder what else?

I like the face. Not so much the huge tracts of land.
You watch him as he stutters over what to say. It's just a little game you play.
It's no easier for you some days.

Fair enough.

@Ace:Daring Do was obviously in some sort of tropical jungle. And I don't think one can write about something like that if it didn't exist.

wild mass guess Equestria is really Mars ad the ponies terraformed the whole planet. And also pulled the moon over.

Equestria is The Matrix. Ponies are actually humans, and the Machines are trying to use the whole thing as a means to teach humans to live in peace and harmony.

And Celestia is Agent Smith tongue

@Ed: Well, the book certainly implies rich tropical climates are a possibility. Only we haven't seen any tropical pony colonies, perhaps the Wild Climates in the tropics are more hardcore than the temperate zone.

Also want to see polar pony colonies.
