@JT: Then again, I also like the Velvet blog, which has some of the elements you mention, but it at least tries to tell a story and doesn't overdose on the angst part.

@ed: I don't think those elements are bad, just that a lot of tumblrs try to coast on it.

I agree with JT here. I actually like angst, but I like the angt to have a point as well.

One Tumblr that I wish updated more often is Ask Diane Pie (well, that and it's two related tumblr's). It's got an interesting premise and gives tantalising hints to its universe. Plus it gave us Skylight Sparkle who is best AU!Pony.

That she is. Not that the others are lacking. For example, Kindness!Applejack is adorable. I can't wait to see more of Splash Rainbow though as I'm sure that she'll be hilliarious and Fluttersky seems like a badflank.

Yeah, when it comes to tumblrs I don't mind if they include angst, but they have to use it for something. If the whole point of the thing is "it's ponies BUT IT'S ALSO SAD", it doesn't do a whole lot for me. It can be used to further characterization and plot, but it isn't a draw on it's own.
