I guess the backgrund pony fanon thing is because it's sort of an collabritive thing.

Well, more like "one person writes a thing about a background character, people like it, it becomes fanon."

And OC gets hate cos it's unfamiliar, doesn't originate from the show and people are all too quick to call it a Self Insert or Mary Sue.

... Funny how one quite popular fic ("Through The Eyes of Another Pony" I think) has the main character started as a self insert, but then gone through character development enough to outgrow the self insertyness.

Like I said a while ago, I think that if your OC is awesome enough they'll leave you alone, too.

Since Cheerilee seems to be around the same age as the Mane Cast, they were probably in High School at about the same time she was.

Hmm... This is kind of odd.... They don't act like ponies in their thirties.

I'm not a big fan of original characters, but that doesn't mean that people can't draw good art of them. I like good art in general, even if it's a character I hate.

I don't think that was Cheerilee (and will continue to do so unless Word Of God says otherwise), because in every other respect she acts and sounds older than the mane cast

^We've also seen several Bonbons in one shot. There are ponies who look similar everywhere; there's no reason to assume that that filly is Cheerilee. (There's also no reason to assume that Equestrian The Eighties was, in fact, thirty years ago.)

Yeah I know we saw Twi hanging out with Cheer that time, but I've always seen her acting as more of a cool big sis to the mane cast. Twi especially.

Maybe the current time period in the show is the ninties? That's were most of the good cartoons come from anyway.

Oh oh! Returning back to the topic of OC's. I had this idea..

I think I might start posting a comic on dA about OC's in the nation of #MLP-FIM on the run from the guard ponies as their existence has been outlawed. They'd end up hiding with sympathetic background ponies, sometimes wearing a mask, and all in all avoiding capture and being sent to the concentration camps where all the bad art goes.

It'd be way exaggerating the situation but darn if it wouldn't be amusing to me.

I've always seen Cheerilee as a Cool Big Sis as well, if she regularly interacts with the girls at all.

She'd need to be cool in order to be a Cool Big Sis. Don't get me wrong I love her, but she hasn't really done much in terms of being competent as of now.

They should remedy that next season

Final attempt to address this before it becomes a total derailment: Since all current Macs use Intel CPUs, the performance hit from virtualization is only about 2%.

As for Cheerilee, I can't really see her pallin' around with the mane six even as a Cool Big Sis, since that would break up the group dynamics a bit. I imagine her association with Twilight is simply on a professional level, since they're both in education-related fields (teacher and librarian).

I like the idea that they all have groups of friends who are seperate from the mane group. Why? because in real life, lots of people have friends who aren't friends with their other friends. After Gilda, I'd like to see that portrayed in a positive way

The mane cast can have friends outside of each other. It's just that they together are close friends, and any other ponies they hang out with are acquaintances. If that makes sense.

Using myself as an example, I have two close friends that I hang about with near everyday. Then there's my workmates, gym buddies, college classmates, my 40k buddies, my brother etc

Different circles of friends basicly. Some deeper than others.

Edit: Yeah, like Gilda, but more positive.

Hell, we still have to make room for Minty! Old school friend of Pinkie Pie from High School? Played the cymbals?
