I have no idea how on earth such a game would work out. It sounds like "Trying Too Hard: The Game."

Also, are we talking about Howl's Moving Castle?

Stardust is one of my favorite novels by Gaiman followed by Anansi Boys.

Wait, someone else has actually read Stardust?!

Actually I just saw the movie. P Repares to be murdered by book fans

Eh, while the movie isn't quite as good, it's still decent enough, Story.

Stardust was a graphic novel right? I tried to get a copy off this book swapping site, it was listed as the graphic novel, but it ended up being a novelization of the movie ...

No, I think it was a book, then a movie, then a comic. Right?

Well, book, then graphic novel, then movie. To be fair though, the graphic novel came out around the same time as the book.

@Moe Aside from particularly surreal and symbolic moments in Smile Smile Smile, there has never been any indication that what you see in musical numbers isn't actually happening.

I don't think Smile is the only song to have bits that aren't meant to be taken literally.

But whatever. Not like sockpuppets always agree with show canon anyway.

Anyway, I have to strongly disagree that old games were better. More challenging, generally, which is definitely something I hope that modern games return to, but old school games are mostly inferior in a vast number of ways. But this is a pony thread so I'm not gonna start a debate on that topic.

That depends on the game. But new games done in the style of old ones are usually awesome. Like Hydorah or Cave Story or Spelunky.

Well you have to wait for them to fall out of the sky. That's the hard part.

... Aren't I more likely to get a massive case of indigestion or heartburn from eating a star, than to become young again?

Well, that matters little. Now, to calculate how hard it will be to set up a Ponyville Arcade... Hmmm... first, what games do I need...

Hey guys, if there was a 16 bit styled Super Adventure Ponies, what would you want to see in it? I'd want some narm-charmy 16 bit voice clips that play when a character dies of finishes a stage.

If I were to make a game, I have one in my mind. Think Fallout 3 meets Team Fortress 2 meets World of Warcraft meets Facebook meets Skyrim meets League of Legends (possibly, I've never actually played it) crammed to the absolute brim with tropes.

Everyone always has tons of ideas for games. The key thing is to think of games that you could actually make. For example, I think Achron and Lemmings would make a really good crossover, and I think I could actually make it if I ever got enough freetime and motivation.

Ooh, be sure to include Pickory, and Pony Portal Advance, and Tunnel Attack Advance

I wanna apologize for some strange reason for bringing up my game idea. It didn't have much context, and this isn't really the place for it.

It's going okay, Sky Strike. We just had a confusing bunch of discussions that made my mind whirl, and now we've got a forty-five-year-old pony who wants to start a video arcade. In short, kind of incomprehensible right now.

@Gex: I'd like more variety in the level design, myself. Different aesthetics and different music. And also making Rarity not a Pallete Swap of Twilight.

Anyway, my take on videogames in the show is that they do exist, but only the really primitive arcade type things, and they're more of a novelty than anything else. They don't have any big Nintendo-esque vg superpowers. Given that magic is the show's electricity stand in, I think it's entirely plausible that somepony decided to make a game with it.

@JT Yeah, assuming that you can get an enchantment to operate on even the most simple binary logic, you could theoretically program with magic, though the fact that the ponies involved are limited in their ability to "compile" (comprehend) their enchantments, that puts a pretty hard limit on the technology without physical hardware to back it up.

I'm starting to wonder if characterizing Surprise as a gamer is actually a good idea. It feels like its just happening because of Author Appeal. Granted, in my fanon there's a very strong in-universe reason for this, but I feel like there's not enough context for it when doing the sockpuppet
