@Vanthebaron: Hey, welcome to the thread. I for one am interested to hear the thoughts of someone not already a fan.

[up] This is true.

[down] Chill out Gex, there's no reason to turn people away because they don't think the show is a priceless work of art.

^^^The first part is understatement of the week.

^ you know what I didn't want, I didn't want to leave st. Louis and move to the county the summer before my 7th grade year, but that happened anyway, and so will these reviews if I have a decent criticism of it.

Oh hey Van, been forever since I've seen you.

Anyhow, It's not bad, remember, there is nothing new under the sun, it's mostly the comedy and characters that have the stronger appeal, though the writing is good overall don't expect them to be never before seen stories or anything.

Besides, no real conflict? You haven't even met the dragon yet.

Really, Gex? Really? That's just immature.

As for the Conflicts, who ever said that they have to be brand new and never done? I bet any plot you could think of has been done. The meat of the show is in the characters and the humor.

Looking at the episode guide, I say it starts to get good around episode 9 or 10. Dragonshy (episode 7) is also pretty decent, though not up to the standards of later eps.

[up] That's just as bad.

Also, is it bad that I was able to call every twist or did every do that?

Some of the episodes are fairly predictable (Sonic Rainboom) comes to mind, but I'll be really surprised if you can guess how Sweet and Elite turns out.

Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

For some reason, my friend got another guy hooked by showing him the season 2 finale. I really don't know WHY that was his choice, but...

Anyone else have that happen? One of your fellow bronies tries to welcome someone to the herd by showing them the FINAL episode?

Well, to be fair, the "it gets better several of the way in" doesn't do much to build confidence.

I disagree with the notion that "conflict" necessarily has to be something like robbers. There have been stories about fairly mundane things. For example, a guy trying to overcome a stutter or a guy coming to grips with his inability to commit to marriage. Of course, those examples are leaps and bounds over "ticket problems."

Hey the pilot hooked me to the show easy. Ticket master almost drove me away however.

The conflict bit came from the fact that that's in every magical girl anime I have ever watched...oh shit it is a magical girl show. -goes to contemplate meanig of life-

^ EXACLY! It was so bad!

I, for one, really liked the first few episodes outside of Ticket Master and the second half of the pilot (though those weren't bad, either, just not good).

[up]Well then good thing that the huge save the world conflicts very rarely occur and are never as cliched as the pilot was.

@Greenstar: No real reason not to in a show like this, since there's little continuity to deal with. The only reason I'd suggest not doing that is, in my opinion, the finale is pretty much the best the show has to offer right now. So if they decide to watch more after that they're gonna be disappointed.

[up][up] It's only a magical girl show like 2 or 3 episodes a season.

I watched the episodes out of order so I can't say much about how good the initial episodes are at hooking people.

@van Eh, the two-parters are the closest it gets to Magical Girl.

Well, good thing I've never seen a magical girl show.

Basically, there are two kinds of stories:

More "magical girl"-esque ones: Season 1 two-part pilot, Season 2 two-part pilot, Dragonshy, for example

and slice-of-life episodes: which are things like Ticket Master or Applebuck Season etc. These make up the majority of the episodes.

I think we can all agree that the first handful of episodes are pretty weak, especially in comparison.

Well, to be fair, the "it gets better several of the way in" doesn't do much to build confidence.
The beauty of episodic shows is that you can always skip to the good ones.

Magical Girl Anime only occurs during major villain's. Specifically the Season Opener's and the finale for Season 2.

Regular Antagonists get the Slice of Life treatment

I don't know, I like a few of the earlier episodes much more than some later ones.
