I would replace the people. There's Winona in the show, proving that dogs do exist in-universe.
We need some players over at the VGM Music Game!!! [1]

Here's another one for ya'll:
How would you do a Pony version of Dune?
For some reason, all I get is a mental image of Braeburn saying "Howdy there, welcome to ARRRRR-rakis!"

What about a Ponified Radiant Historia or Solatorobo?
@Moe Dantes: Changeling Face Dancers. Fremares with blue-on-blue eyes and blue-stained cutie marks from Melange-Spice addiction. Axlotl Tanks still creepy. Twi-Mentat. Also I don't want to even imagine how much sand'd get into your fetlocks D:

For some reason, I thought of Twi as being a Bene Gesserit... or as Applejack would put it, "Those funny robed people who say things that don't make a lick of sense."
Applejack would be Paul Atreides.

You're probably right, Mio.
... Then, who would be Paul? Luna?
EDIT: We could simplify the whole issue and say its based on the computer games instead. (and all the sudden, I really want to play a Real-Time Strategy game...)

@ed That brings up an interesting point on the subject of magical hybrids. Many fantasy settings simply have hybridization simply be a function of the creatures being inherently magical. This setting doesn't really have much of a precedent for that kind of hybrid, though... Except for the Griffins. They are half eagle, half lion, after all. Do we take their existence as an indicator that magical hybrids are possible, or do we simply assume that they occurred naturally?
Edit: Forgot about the Manticores and Cockatrices, though I forget what their classical mythological origins are.

Probably the best option else you wanted to keep it with the Mane Six it would have to be Twilight.
I guess that would make Nightmare Moon Leto II.
Also I have never played the Dune RTS, despite having it. Always had trouble getting it to work.
I have Emperor: Battle for Dune, I think that is the last one that was ever made.
I have never had an trouble installing the game, but every time I would try to play it it simply would not start.
Hehe, wow, I remember the Dune 2 RTS (yay, DOS games). It was my first RTS ever, back when interfaces were clunky and my micro was awful. Not really sure how good of a pony mod it would make, though.
