I guess it's supposed to be Ponyville's balloon, and the intro is just inconsistent?

I figured it belonged to the city or something too, and the intro was only depicting Twilight returning from some short solo trip. The toys call it "Twilight Sparkle's Twinkling Balloon", but eh, they're not all that concerned with story, and I think they just wanted to assign that name to it.

I always thought the balloon belonged to Twilight, and she just lent it to other ponies because they're friends

Maybe she was given the balloon by the city when she moved in. She'd need transportation, and I highly doubt the flying chariots are always gonna be there for her

Maybe the mayor really wanted the balloon but didn't want to buy it herself, so she snuck it through a town council meeting, and now they have a balloon no one uses.

Another thing about the Twinkling Balloon is that thing at the top to ride in. It's only there when there's a character in it (Spike in the commercial

and Applejack in "The Return of Harmony Part 2").

I always thought that it was a company-car type thing that Celestia lets Twilight use so she doesn't have to constantly use the pegasi chariots. Although I guess it could be a Ponyville thing.

I don't see Twilight going to Canterlot much, but Spike supposedly goes there, so he could use it. What is he doing, anyway? Waiting for Season 2 like a boss?

...Wow, how did I not notice that the cartoon finally added the basket on top? I expected that to be one way the toy would always differ.
