The Iron Pony debate has been done to death, do we even need to start it again?

Because fairplay is not an occurrence to Rainbow dash, victory is.

That reminds me, if Dash can fly at around 300mph...of course it would be unfair to let her fly during that race.

@Turtle Actually I'd say it would be more like having an extra paddle in ping pong, it doesn't make the event impossible for the other participant, but it makes it easier for you.

Sigh, this again: BECAUSE APPLEJACK ALSO HAD AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE IN A LARGE NUMBER OF THE TRIALS. Rainbow spends all her time flying. Obviously AJ is going to win anything that is based on leg strength.

It was pretty much impossible for them to compete on an even footing.

Both Rainbow Dash and Applejack were guilty of cheating by the end of that episode. Twilight beating them was a wake-up call.

The Cutie Mark Crusaders are pretty interchangeable, but you could justify it by saying that they're kids, and they have yet to come up with identities that will make each of them distinctive. I think of Apple Bloom as the child, Sweetie Belle as the mother, and Scootaloo as the seductress. I know Scootaloo hasn't gotten that many episodes, but maybe she'll be developed into a seductress.

Why is it unfair for Rainbow to use her wings while it's fair for AJ to use the Earth Pony's bonus to strength and endurance?

Why are you all debating over this one episode? Was it really that big of a deal?

And for the recoard, I like RD because of her brashness. It adds more to her Jerk with a heart of gold side.

Basically what it comes down to is that the rules were too vague and the events they choose too use were all biased in one way or another. I'm not going to say any more than that because we've already had this conversation too many times.

You don't sound like you're enjoying it. In fact, you sound quite angry. In any case, I certainly don't enjoy circular discussions, so I'll be ducking out for a while.

@Blue I wouldn't really call that an unfair advantage, personally.

If we count enhanced strength as passive Earth Pony magic, though, then I would.

I think it depends on the event. Like long jump. The point is to jump, not to blatantly stop midair and fly farther (she probably could have pushed the envelope a bit by gliding to assist the jump, though). On the other hand, I think the wings were perfectly legal for the mud walk.

Because, as much as we like the idea of it, Earth Ponies having enhanced Strength and Endurance isn't canon.

Who said anything about back legs? Rainbow doesn't use any of her legs for anything except occasionally standing and lying down. They'd be pretty weak.

@Blue: Although I'd also note that there were only a few events that relied entirely on back-leg strength. Only ones I can think of are the bucking and the maybe the long jump. Then again, on the flip side, there's no way AJ wouldn't win the lassoing contest. Like you said, the entire thing was a crapshoot from the start because they didn't take the varying ideas into account. Although I do think things like flying during the long jump or the tug-of-war are blatantly cheating. There's no way RD didn't know she was expected to not fly due to the nature of the events.

Maybe not cheating but poor sportsmanship? Maybe they should have chosen events that didnt give either one any sort of advantage.

And Im being chased off to take a lunch break so someone can go home early (as if we werent short handed enough... )

Evening folks. Discussing the fairness of the Iron Pony competition from FWF, I see.

@ Blue: Really? When Big Mac is under the effects of love his strength is magnified to ridiculous levels. We know that love amplifies magic so the only logical conclusion is that Earth Pony magic involves a bonus to strength.

To truly beat your opponent, you must beat him on his own terms, at her own game, by being better than your opponent at what your opponent does best. That way, you show that in a fair fight your opponent would stand no chance, and in a fight on your terms, at your game, you would utterly dominate.

...that is not the only logical conclusion. That sounds like overthinking a Rule of Funny gag.
