That's why I said, "It is believed." Whether or not it is true, I have not said either way.
@condo: Yeah, both my my parents are Baptist, but didn't really push it onto me. They want to start going back to church, but either way, I really wasn't raised a certain faith. Which makes deciding difficult.
Burn the land and boil the sea, you can't take the sky from me.

Ah. I thought that "it is believed" meant "it is the doctrine of the Church" or something like that — after all, strictly speaking nobody of us "knows" with certainty anything about the afterlife to begin with.

But they seem to
know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.
I get the impression that Catholicism tends to be a lot stricter than most other sects, but I don't know enough about them to know for sure.
I dunno. It depends, I suppose. For example, the Orthodox Lent is
way stricter than the Catholic one: they basically have to go vegan, don't drink alcohol and even avoid
olive oil for forty days.
For comparison, all that we have to do is not eat meat on Fridays and try to eat light (within reason) on a few special days.

Condo: Can't wait to see your reaction to [S] Jack: Ascend. I saw it last night. I could possibly fetch a link to the point in the chatlog where I gave my opinion if anyone *really* wanted to see, but it's got spoilers that I learned from some quick browsing of MSPA Wiki >_>
I don't really
get horror movies either. I mean, if they don't scare me, I get bored; and if they scare me, well, I get scared, and that's just not pleasant.
One of the few times I ditched school in High School was when we were supposed to watch the second part of
The Shining: we had seen the first part the day before, and I decided that I didn't really care to go through that. I have no doubts that it is a very skillful movie; but well, I wouldn't want to take a kick in the guts even if it was a very artistic and skillful kick, and that movie was just the mental equivalent to a kick in the guts for me (I was probably quite more sensitive then than I am now, but still.)

I don't think anyone answered this and I can only answer for Lutherans, but yes, we do get confirmed. Our church has Confirmation for 7th and 8th grade.
