I just got back from a run. My endurance has dropped pathetically since last summer, when I used to run pretty much every day. I guess I'll have to spend a long time building back up. I could have sworn I had something else to say when I started this post...

Oh yeah, @Wryte: A butterfly landed on me while I was running, so it's a good thing you weren't there. evil grin

It would appear that the null character works too.

My endurance also dropped over the summer.

I didn't run today, but I went on a really long walk, even though it's like, 90 something degrees.

It's over a hundred here. It always is, during the summer.

For some reason though, that's when I always manage to make myself go run.

Do you live in the south or something? It gets into the hundreds sometimes where I live, but not all the time.

I think over here it's a bit cooler during the evenings and night. You definitely don't want to go running during the day though.

@Condo: Fort Worth, TX. During the summer it usually goes for about 40 to 50 days in a row of 100+ degree weather while the sun's out. That's just how it is. I've lived here all my life so I'm kind of used to it. I still don't like it though. I'm really sensitive to brightness so if I go outside in that kind of weather for more than ten minutes I almost always get a headache. I usually get one just driving home from work.

Ha, just noticed that it says "from Texas" by your name.

At least the winters must be nicer than what we got here. Two or three years ago, we got a Snow Day without any snow cause it was -20 degrees.

Chuck Palahniuk 's the man.

Debatable. The film of Fight Club is generally considered to be greatly superior to the book (and I agree, personally). Chuck Palahniuk actually considers the film better himself.

I'm not sure about his other works, I never did get around to reading any more of his books.

[up] The winters are mostly nice but we're so used to the heat that we wimp out over the slightest cold. 30 degree weather is considered apocalyptic here. I honestly can't even imagine -degree weather.

I like his other books. He's most def not one of my favorite authors, but his stuff is so fucking weird. Fight Club is just his most famous book. I kinda like Invisible Monsters more. Freaky Is Cool.

[up] 30 degrees in winter is nice weather. I know a kid from Virginia who moved here. He didn't even own a winter coat, and had to come to school in a windbreaker one day before he figured it out.

Some southern PO Ws were kept in a prison called Camp Douglas near the University of Chicago, and a bunch of em froze to death cause they weren't prepared for the cold.

Speaking of Fight Club, I got really lucky and ended up watching it with absolutely no idea what it was. My friends wanted me and my brother to see it, and I was all like "URGH, this is gonna be some dumb Steven Seagal type movie about shirtless goes punching each other for 2 hours straight." Needless to say I was a bit surprised.

[up] The last time I visited Chicago (I have a lot of family there) it was in the middle of the worst heat wave in decades. It felt just like home. [lol]

I know, I kinda thought it was gonna be dumb, too, but my cousins were all, "Watch it, it rules, " and I was "Sure, " and then I was like "JESUS CHRIST."

[up] My English teacher told us about how she once went to England during a "heat wave." It was 80 degrees.

I never had any endurance to start with. I'm lucky I can make it up the stairs to my apartment.

But yeah, death is sad. Still, I kinda like living close to so much history. I've been to the site of the Haymarket Massacre. There's a weird monument there to replace the one that was blown up by hippies. If you wanna see that one, you need special permission from the police force.

You know, my oldest brother was born on the day of that massacre, and my older sister was born on the day of the Great Fire?

Still, the first monument was of a policeman, which was kind of a dick move. After that, they didn't Lucy Parsons speak in Bughouse Square, which was an even bigger dick move.

Your sister is 141 years old?!

Chicago is a cool city though, I'd love to live there.

That thing about Mrs. O'Leary was a rumor started by people who were racist against the Irish.

My grandparents came here from Ireland, though. We're Sox side Irish.

Also, about Bughouse Square, I volunteer at the Newberry Library book fair every summer, so I'm indirectly fighting for free speech.

There are a buncha names of famous people on a huge poster visible from the brown line between Chicago and Merchandise Mart, and Lucy Parson's name is like the last one on the list. She was awesome.

No idea what's up with the poster, though.

Mrs. O'Leary hung the lantern in the shed And when the cow kicked it over She winked her eye and said It's gonna be a hot time in the old town tonight FIRE FIRE FIRE!

I love all those chants you learn as a kid. I wonder where they came from.

Like, kids hear em from other kids, right, cause we get in trouble if grown ups hear us singing "Miss Suzy." So these things are passed from kid to kid, and they last.

@Storyyeller:It'd be a great movie even without the twist. The cinematography, the acting, the score, every aspect of the thing is just extremely well done. It's one of those rare movies that engages you with every moment, and makes even the mundane, dull parts of the story seem dynamic and intriguing through clever tricks.

Maybe I should go see it some time after all. Along with Who Framed Rogger Rabbit and Cabin In The Woods.
