Obligatory.
I feel like I could touch the heavens, and sock angels.

Element of Indecision.

@ATC: Protip: Pretty much any time somebody uses a smiley, it usually means that they don't intend for the statement to be taken seriously. And in a thread as off-topic as this one, you should take pretty much everything with a grain of salt unless somebody actually says they're being serious.

[up]That's not true, I was legitimately sad that we couldn't all just replace every word in our posts with pony. sad

I don't think the sadface really counts, I guess. I was talking about stuff like the tongue one.

It seemed pretty clearly joking in context to me. The ATC thing, not you.

It still hurt.

How do I know that that was not something mean that Carcio meant to say but decided to disguise it as joking?

I'm still working on it. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm close.

Very well then. Usually, the use of a tongue denotes light hearted tone not meant to be taken seriously.

It's sort of like an extra form of punctuation, much in the same way if I wrote a sentence that ended with a "!" you'd see me as way more excited.

Oh, okay.

It would work better if it came before the statement. That way it seems like less of an afterthought.

Still, I would like confirmation from Carc that it wasn't a veiled insult.

Normally, this is the kind of thing that would be given by tone of voice and body language, but those can't exactly be used with text…

Emoticons are used in place of body language to some degree. Since its sometimes difficult to express emotion with the written word they're helpful.

I like to eat babies .. I could be serious or not... you dont know until I put one of these[lol]

ATC, if that was in fact an insult (which it almost certainly wasn't), it would have been way too straightforward to be considered veiled.
I took a guess and cut a portion out of my heart.

Have you tried Kentucky Fried Children? Their 11 herbs and spices make all the difference. [lol]

How I could tell it was joking: In the middle of people saying one thing, someone says the opposite in a very extreme but deadpan manner. If they actually thought that, they would have said 'I disagree' or 'Actually I think' or something like that, and they also would have phrased the criticism differently. For one thing, they probably would have given some actual criticism about why they think you're bad instead of just spouting a meme with no elaboration.

ATC: I was indeed joking, and it was not meant as an insult at all — it was just a silly attempt at Hypocritical Humour, combined with a suggestion that you were taking the whole thing way too seriously. My apologies if I did not convey this accurately — I suppose that I could have linked to Sarcasm Mode, perhaps.

On another note, I decided to swear off webcomics forever, as they end up taking up too much of my time. I Pinkie Promised.

Heavens help me if I end up betraying my promise... tongue

Post of the Day #107

@ Ginger: She's just hanging around really, what she does is important but kinda beneath her.

@ Purple: Uncool. Next you'll talk about how AJ goes back in time and becomes her own mother.

Ah, that's nothing. I once read a story where, due to time shenanigans, a man became his own kidnapper, father, son, mother, and daughter. Wrap your heads around that for a second.
