So, last weekend I spent actually watching MLP on youtube. I started from the beginning; I just like chronological orders. I agree the two first episodes were not as good as what followed - even for a children's show it was a bit obvious that they only served to rush to establish the setting.

Also Fluttershy's damn lullaby just wouldn't leave my head for days

And there is nothing cuter than Fluttershy "shouting in frustration".

I got one of them to start watching by telling him that John De Lancie is the voice of Discord (he's a Trek fan).

Eh? The only Apple Bloom-related creepiness I've seen is Cupcakes Junior. As far as I've seen, the CMC who gets the worst of it would be Scootaloo, between Ask Pinkamena and scootabuse.

I will be honest, I don't get the fandom's fascination with Cupcakes. It was not that good, really. Gory, certainly; but when I read it, I found myself skipping ahead, not out of disgust or of fear, but out of sheer boredom.

I mean, it was quite repetitive. And there was no real suspense or anything — blah blah blah, and she did <insert horrible thing here> and then she did <insert other horrible thing here>, and Rainbow Dash screamed in pain, and blah blah blah.

Really, what's the point? It looked like Ikea Horror to me...

That's exactly it. Cupcakes is the same as your average slasher flick; it went solely for shock value instead of true suspense. Like the...other one.

There was also Story of the Blanks, though granted that was considerably more tasteful. IIRC psycho Apple Bloom popped up in the Luna Game too.

It's sort of a matter of timing, I think. Cupcakes is so infamous because it was the first really-super-grimdark. Then a whole bunch of stuff followed in its wake, and it ceased to have any real impact because of it.

I'm...not entirely sure what to make of this.

On the one hand it's fairly obvious he's being as pretentious as possible for humor's sake, but on the other hand I can't help but find about half the prose to be unironically beautiful if rather moon-touched.
