I'm just not very good at it. I have a hard time turning the story in my head into comprehensible prose.

What was that about inherent magic?

so late on this one but it's almost still relevant...

Well, my basic thought was that, all ponies produce some magic, right? Unicorns can activly shape theirs, but earth ponies have passive magical abilities, and pegasi have tactile magics. So I figured, since their bodies are essentially always casting certain spells, maybe they could be 'taught' to cast other spells - by being exposed to a certain, 'shape', let's call it, of magic repeatedly, their body might eventually adapt to the magic and start to make that shape constantly.
