Friendshipping then presumably being, these 2 are bestest best friends?

From what we've seen that would friendship Rarity with Fluttershy, and Pinkie with Dash...but Twilight and Applejack are aaaallll alone.

Actually, I do have to wonder about Twilight's real relationship with Spike. They've been together, from what we can tell, since Spike was born - but Spike doesn't consider Twilight to be his mother, and Twilight certainly doesn't treat Spike like an offspring. She treats him like a secretary, and but he seems to go along with it pretty eagerly - for all his moaning, he gets defensive when his job is challenged.

It's odd. We've seen Twilight outright Tell Spike how much she cares about him, and he obviously cares about her too, but neither of them really seem to show it most of the time. I guess they're just...really, really bad at showing affection? It would fit Twilight's character, wouldn't it?

That does seem in character for Twilight. I think it's pretty obvious that they do care about each other, though. He's not merely an employee.

He sorta reminds me of a butler.

Pinkie has a harem? And, now I'm picturing an alternate version of Cupcakes where instead of killing and eating the whole town, Pinkie seduces and sexes up the whole town...

Spike and Twilight have been together so long they've probably got a brother-sister relationship of their own if its not a motherly thing.

Yep. She shows more affection for Spike than for any of her five pony friends. Hence, number one friend, which she said herself.

She's just bad at showing affection. Nerds have no social skills?

Nerds can have social skills, but most (either because of stereotype or... something else) don't bother to develop them.

Just think of the nerds that started their own businesses. That takes social skills.

[up] Please don't derail into Real Life. The question is whether Twilight's interactions with Spike and her pony friends fit the nerd stereotype.

Feels unusual to call it a derail, seeing as how it's still related to Twilight. Wasn't developing her social skills the whole point of moving her to Ponyville? That is what learning about friendship means, when you think about it.

I definitely think The Best Night Ever speaks more to adults than any of the episodes.

Everyone needs a little reminder sometimes.

I could especially relate to the aesop in Applebuck Season. Well sort of. I can accept help if someone offers it, but I have a terrible time asking for help when I need it.

(Edit ninja makes this post disjointed. Blargh.)

The question is, who needed the Aesop from Bridle Gossip?

It's more like "Dear princess Celestia, today I learned that assumptions and xenophoby are bad."

Now that you mention it, "Best Night Ever" did feel distinctly familiar. "Oh, that kind of party."

"Bridle Gossip"... I think the intended aesop was supposed to be a bit more universal than a specific type of racism.

That said, racism still exists, and bear in mind the show was intended for kids.
