Yeah, she's pretty much a hypocrite. I don't hold it against her, though, if only because I don't expect anything better from her. It only starts to bugs me when the story decides to show just enough self-awareness to point out that she's being a hypocrite, but then cites examples where there was no option that didn't result in the immediate deaths of innocents and the like, ignoring the decisions she made where she could have acted differently.

Ah, point of interest: What exactly is the situation here? Is it that Velvet objected to Pip killing the raider, or is it that Pip is forcing Velvet to kill the raider?

You aren't aware of the shipping in Harry Potter? Oh boy, the friggin Harmonians (that's the Harry/Hermione ship)...

The only issue is that you don't seem to see ANY likeable traits in her, which is unfortunate
I'm not given a whole lot to work with. Almost every good thing she does is smeared with self-righteousness and hypocrisy.

Miss Cherilee, that's not how the story goes! The little filly can't get burned like that! You're telling it wrong!

without them it would be just Korra and Tenzin vs Amon.

Don't forget Fransizka/Lin.

@Pannic but I know what you mean. Just because something is justified doesn't suddenly make it enjoyable. I suggest you stop reading. Pip is meant to be well meaning but flawed. Terrified of sliding down a slippery slope and being as bad as those she fights. Her drug addiction makes her not see how bad what she's doing is messing with her friends

Basically, Littlepip wants to kill this guy who's in charge of some Raiders, so she formulates a plan to have Velvet sing a song for all the mercenaries and raiders and act as a distraction while Littlepip goes up to the balcony with a sniper rifle to off him. There's also a thing where the target thinks that another mercenary leader is the actual target.

Littlepip forms the plan, tells the mercenary leader and the raider leader, and then she tells her friend. Velvet objects but then promptly caves and goes along with the plan, and even takes the fact that it nearly gets her killed remarkably well.

[up][up][up]How addled can she be on the drugs? She's taken, what, two of them so far?

@kegisak I think it's issue of Lil Pip using Velvet in assassination plot. Even if it was monster who needed to be stopped.

It's the issue of bullying a pacifist into helping you kill someone.

She deserves it for being a pacifist anyways.

[up][up][up][up]Can you actually suggest other use of pacifist character in such story?

[up]Velvet is somewhere between.

A list of every incompetent thing Celestia ever did in this fic

I thought it actually made her look good. Even when she was almost dead and everything had gone to hell, she still kept trying to save her subjects.

@Pannic The thing with mint-als is that they always make you super smart when you take them, but dumber overall when the effect wears off. She is NOT being perceptive at all.

As I said though, her plans are also improvisational and not thought through completely at points. Her friends know that she isn't being malicious about it, she's just passionate about doing what's right with what she has available. They basically grow to accept that. Velvet serves as the final question of "Is this really the only way?"

@Pannic: Hm. Yeah, I can kind of see your issue with that. I mean on the one hand, it's not a huge stretch for a pacifist to agree to only being an accessory - they'd still object of course, but it wouldn't be too hard to swing them around in the end if it were really the only option. The trick here is the emotional aspect, because no matter whether or not they agreed and no matter whether or not it was necessary, it seems like they'd NOT be happy with it.

So if Velvet really does just switch to musing about playing dress-up, that's bad characterization. and I don't believe you can blame the viewpoint in this situation. If the audience views what appears to be bad characterization, due to viewpoint or otherwise, that is a failure as a writer. Pip would, in this situation, be directly facing Velvet. Moreover, she'd be on a drug that would increase her observational abilities. The author can describe gallons of emotion through body language alone, and if they miss that opportunity it is a staggering flaw.
