To be honest, a lot of your work has an amateurishly sketchy feel to it. It would help, I think, if you took a bit more time to clean up your lines and such.

Yes I do like most of these, but I can't think of a ridiculous gimmick, I just like the characters being the characters.

Unless you all have an idea for some ridiculous gimmick.

I thought inking them improved that aspect.

Uniqueness=/=Gimmicks.

"Gimmick" is suck a stupid word. It's not supposed to be negative, but nowadays it just gets thrown around as an insult, as if anything with a "gimmick" is too shallow/uncreative to be worthwhile. In reality, having a unique quirk as a base to build off of is how everything works.

Now, I'm not saying that wanting to keep the characters as themselves isn't the way to go. Instead, the uniqueness can come from the situations or setting. I just don't think "the mane six, except they're human" is enough on its own.

Atually, yeah. I was probably thinking of the sketchy sketches when I thought that.

Still, I dunno, even the inked ones have this sort of... this sort of "could have been better" feel that I don't know how to elaborate on.

The issue with "gimmick" is it's gone from it meant, "A unidue thing about the show/work" to bacialy meaning that there is nothing BUT that one thing, instead of it just being one part of the thing.

So yeah a gimmick is fine, unless said gimmick as all you have.

Then give me an angle, if them as humans isn't enough, what else can go in there?

Nothing wrong with gimmicks. They catch attention, make your thing stand out.

Sherlock would've been better if it had stuck with the "floating words over the things as he examines them" thing that they did in the pilot. That was neat and snazzy and totally missing from the second episode.

Also, I think I found an omission in my "recording of everything by Mozart that we have" collection. I can't seem to find Un moto di gioia...

@Mousa: Ultimately it's your call; all the limitations on what you draw at this point are self-placed; just draw what you want to draw.

Yeah, people are confusing the difference between a gimmick and a Dancing Bear. Gimmicks are fine as long the work has substance beyond them.

well, I did have a Blissey as my avatar for a short time back when first started perusing forums back in 03. But it seemed so...expected. I was a fan of dilbert, so I picked up Dogbert, Patron Saint of Technology and have had him ever since.
