The first two episodes aren't bad, they just aren't as good as a lot of the later episodes. I like them a lot, I just like other episodes a lot more.

They're just starters, Pilots just need to be good enough. we're lucky it's as much of a masterpiece as it is, which is not saying much, the first to episodes could draw one in but they obviously aren't as good as the rest of the series and I'm rambling...

I am the only one who liked the first two episodes? When those premiered, they made me a Brony before the fan base even existed.

I actually don't get why they're considered below average. I think they're a lot better than some of the later episodes. I like them quite a bit.

I didn't even know the pilot was unpopular, I thought it was rated high by fans. I don't watch it frequently, but I think the story's okay and all the character establishment is just wonderful.

I actually tend to think a lot of shows' pilots end up better handled than the refined later ones (eg. Sonic Sat Am, The Dreamstone, Inspector Gadget), often because they feature a lot of Character establishment or concepts that are unused in the rest of the show due to Executive Meddling or Flanderizing certain ones for the finalized series.

@Story I actually use Pidey till endgame, if I didn't pick Charmander.

Edit: I liked Bloo in the pilot, and then hated him for the rest of the series.

I thought you prefered season 2?

I did at first (though now that I've rewatched Season 1 I think they're more or less equal). That doesn't mean I disliked the first season, or that there weren't episodes in Season 2 I disliked (Putting Your Hoof Down in particular).
