That's another thing. Twilight would have to be a colossal idiot to think that the riddle means the maze. She just misses half of her information. And you could argue that she's just stressed out and not thinking right but Celestia is right there and has the same info and agrees.

And the first time that info was being looked for on the Elements was in Twilight's Library at Canterlot.

@Bad I've seen riddles and logic problems with Red Herring details before. In any case, this is a really small detail to get hung up on.

As for the Elements deal, it's made pretty clear that the Elements themselves are the necklaces + tiara set. Those are referred to as the Elements of Harmony multiple times in the show, not the group that wields them.

I don't really mind if they are the Elements or just bear them but there is evidence for both sides.

Back where they all began. Twilight was looking for them by herself in her old library, but the Reference Guide was first found in her new library. And "back where they began", in terms of the maze, could have meant that they'd find them at the entrance once they made the full circuit, or something. There are a number of ways it could have been interpreted, like "back in the sealed room", or "in the Everfree Forest castle", or "where you were born".

They aren't the elements, they're attuned to them. Ownership can be transferred, and the Elements can go into a rejecction response if they falter in the virtures.
