Would an ultralight Atom-powered rig be able to play Minecraft? I hope the old N455 backed by Intel's GMA chip can handle Minecrafting. For reasons of portability. Also I'm not getting the Android or iOS versions.

Failing that, would the AMD E-450 APU have the punch to play Minecraft?

@Ace As far as I know, the real issue of running Minecraft is RAM. The graphics are simple, but it needs to render, generate, and calculate a lot of stuff. As for hardware, I'm a software person. All of those letters and numbers are meaningless gibberish to me.

RAM isn't an issue, it's the CPU. Minecraft takes a crapload of CPU time to do the rendering and all that.

@Badwolfwho:Well ya know how you start out looking like a zombie made out of beef jerky? That means you're Hollowed. It doesn't have any negative effects on your character other than looking like crap, but if you use Humanity, then visit a Bonfire, you can choose Reverse Hollow and it will transform you back into human form. This is called unHollowed. When you're unhollowed, you can be invaded by other players who will try to murder you, and you can also use the White Soap Stone (which you don't have yet, but will get soon) to summon other players to help you. Certain bosses in the game are basically intended to be fought with allies, so don't feel bad for resorting to it.

There's a bunch of other things affected by whether or not you're Hollowed once you join a Covenant, but you don't really have to worry about that yet. Oh, and if you're playing offline (the game is much funner if you play online btw) there are sometimes NPC characters you can summon so you're not entirely out of luck.

@Sixth: Then how come it can run somewhat smoothly on the mobile devices? Surely the Tegra 2 and the A5 chips aren't that hardcore.

Actually NP Cs can appear even if you are playing online. Just look for golden symbols.

@Ace Optimization. If your exact platform and OS is locked down tight, you can make a whole bunch of coding assumptions you wouldn't be able to make otherwise. It's how the Xbox version is able to keep up as well.

@Ace Like Lurker said, optimization. On my Windows Vista desktop, average CPU usage is around 2-4%, Minecraft runs smoothly at full render distance and bumps up usage to around 25%. On my Ubuntu laptop, it only runs somewhat smoothly on tiny, and with full CPU usage.

Isn't 4-0 like, a really impressive score for that game? No offense, but I seem to recall most games don't go over scores of 2 or 3.

@Sixth: What processor are you using? I have a sinking feeling that the Fusion Bobcat APU and the old N455 Atom CPU are gonna be slow to Minecraft with.
