I'm not too familiar with Chess, though I know a few of the songs. It's loosely based on Chess, and the character Anatoly is based on Bobby Fischer. The song Anthem is a bit of a musical theatre standard, and it's quite a great song. "One Night in Bangkok" is also worth a listen.

Yes, it does have a villain:

Assassins is about various people who have tried to kill a United States president. I posted a video in the Fallout Equestria thread.

I read a cool fic called The Moonstone Cup that more or less had that as its premise. It was structured more like your typical Shonen Tournament Arc, though.

@ Ginger: Contest among all magic using creatures, it starts with utility contests to weed out the bad ones. Then they're sorted by age (I think) and have one on one fights, when there's only about four or something left the age is forgotten and there's more one on one fights.

It's not really an Olympics at all.

The multiple conversations going on at once made me think for a moment that there was a fanfic out there that made Seafoam a scary competent villain.

Now there's a thought: make a random background pony into an antagonist.

Admittedly about fifty percent enlightenmentCaveman too.

@Bad Yeah, it's not really like the Olympics that much, hence why I said it was more like a traditional Tournament Arc.

@Ginger The villain isn't even really the villain for most of the story, and only really snaps and jumps to outright villainy in the last few chapters. For most of it, the antagonist is whoever Twilight is up against at the moment.

@Applelight: I was joking about the books.

And they tend to cost ~$200 bucks per semester, which is way more than anything I could write would be worth.

At the absolute most I wouldn't take more than, I don't know, maybe like twenty bucks, and even then I'm not sure it would really be worth it given that you'd be paying less for the story itself and more for just moving it up in the queue a few spaces.
