Chadaman Hmm. If you built the PC yourself you could get a mid-high end PC for fairly cheap. And if you are patient (BLACK FRIDAY) you could possibly get something that could run anything at "High" Graphics quality/Performance.

As for prebuilt I suggest searching the shopping sites. Newegg/Tigerdirect usually have some decent options.

Think of it this way. You know the code they use to make a web page look the way it does? Think of that as, say, a blueprint for a stool. Standards exist so that everyone that looks at the blueprint interprets it the same way, so you end up with a nice-looking stool.

IE tends to want to do its own thing, so it looks at the same blueprint, but might end up making a dining chair instead. So it takes extra work to write the blueprint specifically so that IE makes a stool just like everyone else does, and not a dining chair.

Depends on if he is looking for a Desktop or Laptop though, you cant exactly build a laptop.

I build my own Desktops, fairly easy to buy parts and stick em together. You do need to know a little bit about what goes with what, but its mainly just picking a motherboard you like and filling the slots.

I build my machine for about 600.. it isnt the best in the world but I can play most games on Medium to high Settings.

I switched to chrome after Firefox blocked the function of an addon that Im prettymuch crippled without.

I used Opera at one point, but now I'm all Chrome.

Opera did give us the Speed Dial function which is now standard in most browsers, which I am forever grateful for.

I split my time between Chromium (Chrome's open-source brother) and Firefox, depending on my preferences at the time. OS-wise, I dumped Windows 7 in favor of Ubuntu (or Kubuntu, it varies), and I don't miss it one bit.

I have a Mac, partially because my family has always had Macs, and partly because I make a living doing iOS development, so having a Mac is pretty handy. It does everything I need it to, and plays all the games I want it to play, so I think it's great.
