@Kegi From the outside looking in, yeah it looks pretty bad. But that's mostly because the worst news is the only news. My aunt is a teacher, and she is by no means barely making enough to get by. Sure, it's not much, but it's still a lot more than what the substitutes get paid (my mom is a substitute teacher at the same school). The largest problem they complain about is inflexibility in the available curricula due to standardized testing. As for funding, that's a universal problem, mostly stemming from the fact that any politician that even proposes raising taxes to get the necessary funds will not get reelected, and said proposals will never be passed for the same reasons. Political campaigns use voting records as ammunition for mud-slinging all the time.

It's a universal problem within the united states; funding in Canada is pretty much solid. It isn't necessary to raise taxes, it's possible to do it through reallocation of funds, taking moeny away from things that need it less - like your bloated military budget, for example.

On a lighter note, a really cool episode idea I just had would be a sort of "clashing egos" episode. Rainbow Dash, Trixie, and Diamond Tiara end up trapped together through random circumstances, and are forced to work together without murdering each other. Hilarity Ensues.

Education is funded at the State level, which has nothing to do with the military budget. But yes, it's a problem. Unfortunately, there are enough voters that agree with said bloated programs to keep them going.

Huh. Well, fair enough then, didn't realize that. though in retrospect... well, anyways.

I wish they'd put as much money into education as they do building a new sports arena every few years around here. Not that Im totally against sports, they serve their purpose, but do you really need a new stadium every 5 years?

If they dont build what the teams want they throw a hissy fit and threaten to move to another city...

I... don't think the government funds sporting arenas. At least not wholly. They're privately owned, after all. Not to mention quite good for the local economy.

But that'd be a matter as to who/what funds who/what.

I personally believe this is all pointless. We'll probably just all just kill each other off in the end.

Oh yes they will if a team can convince the local government that they can bring in enough money. There was a big controversy where I live, when the county found out that the team whose baseball stadium they helped fund had more money then it let on.

Well the stadium in Baltimore was partially funded by the State lottery, whose proceeds also go to support education. So basically they derailed educational funds to the stadium.

It's all well and good to acknowledge the crap that's going on in the world, but I really don't think that all this pessimism is healthy or accurate to the situation.

Now how can you make an attack ad that goes "The other candidate didn't divert more funds into education"?

Dunno, just bugs me that overpaid sports professionals are more important than say... the future of the country. You dont teach your kids youre going to have a nation full of idiots... Ever see that movie Idiocracy? Maybe not quite that bad but close
