Eh, he doesn't sound like my kind of author

He's not really my kind of author either, but I definitely respect him, he's one of the earliest codifiers of science fiction.

[up][up] She still hasn't been exposed to you all that much.evil grin

@ginger: There's kind of a creepy story in it about the 3rd mission to Mars, and they land and it looks like America. Read that one. You would like it for reasons you describe. I think it's chapter 6 or something.

[up][up] Yes.

@Bliss: It's different with TMC, because I'm saying what were my favorite stories of the anthology collection all in the same 'Verse.

I remember my father sitting down to read Fahrenheit 451 with me for bedtime story, he was always pushing me to read books slightly beyond my grasp at that age. It helped me a lot though since I had a college grade reading level in 3rd grade [lol]

@ginger: It has a good villain. What more do you want?

[up] I read it to my little sister. She loved it. I got my anthology of a lot of his pulp stories, too. They're good.

man, all this heavy sounding stuff. Give me a good, heck, even decent High Fantasy or Heroic Fantasy romp and I'll be happy.

So? I was reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in second grade. My mom had to take me over to her school so that I could take the AR test on it. Then she walked me around the school and bragged to her kids about me XD

Who are we talking about?

Also Librarian: That is a thing that could happen, yes. Not that I'd be able to answer it for a good long while anyways. No scanner, and all that.

Also Also, I really need to start reading again. I barely do it anymore, and that makes me sad as a writer and someone who grew up loving books.

[up][up]Ooh, ooh! Read the Belgariad, they were my favourite. Eddings' other series too... can't remember what it was called. First book was "The Diamond Throne". Main character was named Sparhawk.

But TMC doesn't start out like that, and it doesn't focus on it too much.

There's a story about a nuclear war told from the perspective of this crazy guy trying to open up a hotdog stand. I mean, yes!

@ginger: Creepy villains. Some of them win. They're smart, powerful, etc.

@turtle I don't like HOPELESSNESS. I need hope in my stories. It's what I watch media for. It's why I despise Downer Endings with every fibre of my being and am completely incapable of seeing their appeal

@ginger: TMC has hope. It's such a fast read, I'm telling you. Just read a few short stories, they're only a few pages.
