Considering how silly that series can get, not that different, actually. Especially when you consider the strong friendship themes in both series.

Also, I think I missed a discussion on the consistency of magic in the show earlier? When exactly has it been inconsistent? I can't really think of any instances off the top of my head.

@Romantic: Well, quite a few of u read CRISIS Equestria and really enjoy it. I will say that most of us (including myself) think that it's strong points are its worldbuilding and O Cs rather than its portrayel of canon characters. Still, it's a lot of fun.

Personally, I don't think that the show has displayed magic inconsistantly.

The only instance of magic inconsistency I can think of is the magical aura of the unicorns' telekinesis (that's a phrase I never thought I would say) changed between season 1 and season 2. But you could just file this under Art Evolution.

True. But I think that that's mainly Twilight being frustrated than a canonical explaination. Twiliht is still studying and knows less than she would like to.
