She became popular just by being unique due to a graphical glitch, once the show runners leaned about it they then started adding her into the background on purpose. At this point she pretty much come to be seen as a symbol of the amazing relationship between the bronies and the staff.

Plus she's awesome.

I prefer it as a more Darth Sideus type thing. She wasn't straight up possessed, but she gave into the temptings of some dark power willingly.

More or less this, give her some demons to live with but have at least some excuses of her being 'taken over', otherwise she'll seem too much like a Karma Houdini.

I prefer to think Luna initiated things, only it snowballed out of her control in her anger and madness.

I always think of it as Luna being responsible for all of her actions as Nightmare Moon. No evil space miasma.

I prefer her having at least some excuses to this, keep in mind as Nightmare Moon she was a very nasty piece of work and took sadistic pleasure torturing the mane cast. To have her as the highly sympathetic Luna straight afterwards seems a bit uneasy.

It would also make sense since Nightmare Moon is rather different in personality to Luna, much more apt to the gift of gab and making a show of herself while Luna is socially incompetent.

Do you think I should make an account on Stack Overflow and post it there? I'm not sure that's the appropriate place. And if javap just crashes, I think that should be considered a bug in javap, not my code.

Her own hatred blinded her. The cast could see that there was potential in redemption, and so gave her that chance. I don't really see the problem.

@absolclaw: It's sorta like saying a murderous Complete Monster is completely redeemable because the hero sees good in them. Granted Nightmare Moon hadn't gotten that far, but she wasn't really different from Discord in terms of evil, who got a far less forgiving fate. Having some sort of posession come into (even if not for the entire process) makes it more palpable for her to be a redeemable character.
