Is it true that a Unicorn can't really do magic until they earn their mark (seeing as though their magic is tied to it?). Except for really basic spells?
If so, maybe that's why Sweetie dosn't really do magic.

Even Twilight Sparkle struggled to use telekinesis in Cutie Mark Chronicles ON A FREAKING BOOK. So it makes sense that Sweetie Belle is limited with her magic.
Snails has a cutie mark. It's infinitely easier for a unicorn to use magic when he or she has a cutie mark.
Maybe that's what the snail is for? Light.
maybe all the ponies are crazy

All the ponies in Ponyville are, at least.

But apart, all we are is just a pile of mush and some crumbly dry mess...
Hold it, if Cutie marks control the magic you can learn. What about Trixie? She seems to be able to do magic that isn't strictly limited to performing

such as? All her magic seemed to be just the performance
Maybe her special talent isn't performing, its showing ponies up. Hey, its a better special talent than Silver Spoon's.
What if her magic was just "tricks" that made her appear to be more powerful than she actually is? Like a stage magician in real lifr he talent is distracting others while she does simpler abilities to set up her act.
I've been thinking about Earth Pony magic.
Word of God says that they have passive magic. What does this mean?
Take AJ for example. Could she grow an apple tree anywhere in the world, in any climate, so long as she puts the time and effort into it because her magic assists her?
Or take a blacksmith Earth Pony. Would their stuff be incrediably tough/well made because their magic enchanted it whilst they were forging it?

How do we know the tornado wasn't caused by precise telekinesis?
I always figured that with Twilight there was actually a lot more time between her seeing Celestia raise the sun and her attempt to enter the school than we saw. Her parents thought she could get into the school for gifted unicorns after all, so she had to have gotten better than she was when she was struggling with a page. Her failure to hatch the egg could have just been exam nerves.
That isn't power that's precision. Like a human magician has no real magic but is good with her hands Trixie could have little real magic but is good at telekinesis.
