@Perpetual: It's less that, and more that I think if they're going to incorporate a relationship into the show, it needs to have some sort of effects or else it just seems like they added it for no reason. The other thing is that while it might not change your personality, it usually does change the social structure of the group a bit because when somebody is romantically involved, their priorities change. Basically, I think that romance would either have too little effect and look inconsequential and gratuitous, or it'll have too much effect and mess up the current character dynamics.

@JT And I see that as Character Development. So long as the group remains together, the dynamic doesn't have to be static.

How about Scoots getting shy around Rumble, and then AB and Sweetie mistake for a crush, and then they ask their sisters for advice?

That's true, but the problem is that the show is literally built around the dynamic working a certain way. It would be like trying to add a seventh element of harmony. I can't think of a way to do it that wouldn't feel like it was being shoehorned in. I suppose the writers could pull it off in theory, but I really think it's unnecessary. The show doesn't need romantic elements to achieve it's purpose.

@JT If there's any show that could pull it off, it's this one. Of course, we're talking about a very hypothetical situation that isn't likely to ever happen.

I wouldn't mind a seventh ranger.

It would have be a miracle for them to actually pull that off without the fanbase imploding.

I thought I demonstrated twice how it could be done.

Oh, the fanbase would implode, alright. Canon shipping in such a shipping-heavy fandom is nothing but bad news. I would just sit back and enjoy the fireworks, though.

@Apple: True, although I wouldn't really count Spike's crush as genuine romance. He's too young for that. I'd still like to see a subplot with the secondary characters though. Like maybe follow up on Cheerilee/Big Mac or something.

Eh, I just don't think romance would really help the show any. It might be interesting for an episode or two, but it could go Romantic Plot Tumor really easily.

@ed More or less. In fact even the implied, yet not confirmed relationship between Big Mac and Cheerilee nearly caused the shippers to implode.

It's not that I want romance, exactly, it just falls under my list of things that could be done well with proper writing.

Okay, I'm annoyed. The second and third Biohazard bunkobans are listed on Amazon, but I can't seem to find the first one, The Strange Beast of the North Sea. The one that has the most interesting title is also the most obscure, it seems.

You know what this show would do if it had balls? Make it turn out that all the mane six are in an Open Marriage.

I like shipping and all, but I don't like the idea of having romance in the actual show unless it's just the already canon couples or things like Big mac/Cheerlie.

@Perpetual: I agree that it could be done well. I'm just saying that it would be really difficult to pull it off, and that I don't think it would really benefit the show much. Basically, my stance is that it's possible, but I really don't think they should bother. Too much potential to go wrong for too little return.
