You'd think Starlight could've done something more painful to Tick Tock, like peeling the flesh from her body, as opposed to merely blasting her with a big "FUCK OFF" energy blast.

What would TT have done then? If Starlight hadn't used a beam attack then thy would've been fucked

I like to actually think that in stark contrast with Twilight, Starlight is incredibly dense. To her, BIG FLIPPIN ENERGY BEAM > {{Boring, But Practical}}, which makes sense since she's apparently also the youngest? I mean think about it, Silvertongue is clearly massively intelligent, and yet Starlight uses bigger and fancier words on purpose. To try to emulate him, see, since she's his favorite?

I'm OK with this, because I like those writers.

Starlight seems to rely on shock and awe. Everything she does in combat revolves around massive displays of power and dominance. She doesn't seem to be all that creative when it comes to strategic fighting. I'm not sure how she'd fare against Twi when Twi's on her A game.

The only really innovative thing we've seen her do is manipulate the landscape, and that was Curacao's and Grayscale's idea, not hers.

My point exactly. Everypony else is massively creative with their magic - heck, we saw what Twilight could do when forced into a corner: Teleport Spam + Doppleganger Attack = Flippin' SEIZURE dude! Starlight seems nowhere near as clever, though her own Teleport tricks were pretty well-planned.

@Dark But she isn't really PLANNING those teleport maneuveres.

The thing about Starlight, she's SO powerful and natrually gifted that she doesn't need to put a lot of effort into actually THINKING things through and formulating a strategy, she just muses, and it happens.

Take what she did to Tick Tock. That wasn't creative, that wasn't innovative, she was just showing off because it was effortless for her to do so. She just thought "I want Tick Tock to be miles in the air" and it happened.

When put under stress, she pretty much lost ALL her competence. What does she do to combat Twi? ROCK SPIKE. ROCK SPIKE. ROCK SPIKE. BEAM SPAM

True enough, she cracks under pressure pretty easily. If I were to rate the Mean Six on intellect alone (at least what we've seen), I'd say:

• Curacao
• Grayscale Force
• Red Velvet
• Havocwing
• Starlight Shadow
• Insipid

Starlight is so low because when she's angry she shows that she loses her cool and any planning goes out the window. Red Velvet is so high because, other than dealing with Pinkie's powers (not Pinkie directly), she's actual shown to be quite intelligent in matters of fear and horror. Curie proves herself a little more intelligent than Gray, simply because she figures out how to tap into Starlight's telepathy connection. Insipid doesn't know what the word 'grasp' means.

I think she just isn't used to actually needing to put EFFORT into fighting

and Insipid could be pretending for all we know

I see Insipid being more of a Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass or Let's Get Dangerous type than Obfuscating Stupidity, myself.

Considering that she has the possibility to be absurdly overpowered, yeah, actually I can see her being a massive problem to deal with if she actually takes things seriously.

I imagine that if there's a showdown of 1v1s of all the Mane/Mean pairs at the end, Rarity is going to be SCREWED

It's especially scary since we don't know how many powers she can wield at once.

Imagine if she absorbed Nihilia's power

Merriweather Williams is one person.

She's writer for MMDW (I like this episode, I still enjoyed it after my recent rewatch) Hearthwarming Eve (one of my favorote in season), Dragon Quest (also one of my favs) and Putting Your Hoof Down (after Charlotte Fullerton stopped writing for show)

Seriously she should write more worldbuilding stuff.

Am I the only one who DOESN'T particularly want to see Tartarus?

I'd rather them focus on the rest of pony society (like trottingham for instance ) if they were going to worldbuild
