It's because of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon that we viewers have to put up with the stupidity and unnecessary FAIL IMO that is the CMC. That, and they're just one-dimensional asshats!

c'mon, the CMC aren't THAT bad are they? At least they give us insight into the world of cutie marks

I would actually say the Jocks annoy me more. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are insufferable, but they're also young and don't know much better; the jocks are the same age as the main six, and they should have gotten over their elementary school mentality years ago.

Yeah... and then they unleash a great evil on the world.

It seems that we always view younger characters as The Scrappy. Look at D.W.

I don't mind the CMC too much; sometimes I find them a bit annoying, but they hardly ruin every episode they're in or anything. My only real gripe is that the constant Aesop Amnesia and Completely Missing the Point in regard to Cutie Marks makes them come across kinda like idiots.

and I wouldn't view them as Scrappies if they were just more competent then they currently are. They're coming off as just stupid and lacking real focus to me.

Also, they're the ones responsible for Discord's release from his rightful prison?! Are they TRYING TO MAKE EVERYONE HATE THEM, including those in the show itself, and not just the viewer base?! That's sad!!! and :

If they did, I wouldn't mind if they just got a simple calling out. Maybe a worse punishment if Discord's release changes anything permanent to the status quo (I.E. Death)

@Lost: It hasn't been confirmed that they released Discord. And even if they did, it's not intentional. It could have been any group of fillies that started arguing. And besides, if that's all it takes to release Discord from his prison, there are far bigger problems than the CMC fighting.

I kinda agree with you about the incompetence though, they really need to start retaining some information or else they'll just seem like idiots.

Honestly, I mostly agree. Cutie Mark Chronicles just seemed kinda boring to me because none of the background stories outside of Twilight and Pinkie Pie's really gave us any new info about the characters, although Rarity's was amusing. I mean, all the other ones came across as foregone conclusions. Of course Rainbow Dash gets hers when racing, Fluttershy gets hers when she meets the animals, Applejack returns to the farm, etc.

x5: I know, But we can't let them off the hook. Not even for a minute. Characters like these need an eye on them to prevent such horrors befalling their land, or even something lesser, like fucking up talent shows for everyone else.

x4: Death seems harsh. Only if they really deserve it should it befall them for doing something worthy of it. Otherwise, please don't go that far again.

Thank you for understanding my position on these characters in the first place. The sooner they retain some sense of responsibilty and intelligence to keep them from daring to be stupid, as well as some concrete development, the farther they'll be from being Scrappies and/or hurting the show overall IMHO.

However, i do hope the CMC dynamic is shaken up in season two. I would like to see what happens to their friendship if they get their cutiemarks at different times.

This had better happen. It would be a huge wasted opportunity if they all got their marks at the same time.

Assuming the writers do stagger their cutie marks, who do you think will get hers first? I figure Scootaloo will be last, since she seems most likely to get pissed about being left out.

Same here. It would be a good way to allow the group to make progress without completely destroying the "trying to find our place in life" dynamic that they're built around. It would be a good way to develop the characters while keeping the core of the group the same.

That said, while I think they're mildly annoying at worst right now, there really isn't a whole lot else that can be done with them unless they either progress in their quest, or get an episode where they do something not Cutie Mark related.

I'm a little conflicted about the CMC. On one hand, I like them as characters, and I like the potential plots they could drive. However, I've found that I like them more as a framing device than as the actual focus characters for an episode. For example, I much prefer Stare Master and Chronicles to Show Stoppers and Call of the Cutie. Also, I really liked Applebloom in Bridle Gossip. Here's hoping maybe we can see more of them individually.

On an unrelated note, I did a couple more of those Coltdubs yesterday.

Sorry, but I gotta agree with Peter David here: while a great and talented team is essential for the success of any new work, at the very beginning of the whole thing is the creator, who has to bring forth raw ideas from the abstract of the naked canvas (or typewriter, or word processor). All signs indicate that Faust was the one who first crafted the mane six characters, the settings, the tone, the very rules of the series and its universe, and continued throughout the first year to tweak ideas and adjusted the contributions of others to match her vision.

Others came along and provided invaluable aid in erecting the edifice, but (again quoting PAD here) "The [creator] is the one who has to reach into the ether of nothingness and pull from it, dripping and raw, something... Everything that comes afterward is other people — pencillers, inkers, whoever — building upon the concepts that the [creator] came up with."
