A couple fics have. (My Little Dashie) but I have yet to see a fic really explore the opportunities there.
But I digress
I envision a world where it is possible for humans and ponies to cross over the barrier. At the very least Celestia is aware of this occurrence and will occasionally send ponies to the human world for studying and liaison purposes. Humans turn to ponies when visiting Equestria and the opposite happens for ponies visiting Earth. Equestria and earth would only be connected by a pair of portals.

You could do a Back To Earth type thing and have the characters discover they are fictional, only for it all to be a trick and they turn out to be real after all.

I've read a fic where a pony is sent to the human world as a human, though it doesn't happen until several chapters in (the fic's called ). Unlike My Little Dashie, this one hasn't involved MLPFiM existing in the human world (except in a non-canon April Fools' Day side story).

Before I came to my senses I had considered doing a fic where humans gt turned into ponies and end up in Equestria and go into detail about how weird it is to adjust into quadrupedal mannerisms, a meat-less diet, etc. And for added comedy it was to star the faces as independent entities.
