I found Schneizel a bit dry, honestly. He was The Stoic, but he was never actually in any urgent situation to contrast his stoicism with, so it just came off as having no personality to speak of. Of course, I watched it in Japanese, so I don't know how his English VA does. That, and I'll forever associate him with the show's blatant disregard for the rules of Chess, despite heavily relying on chess motifs for symbolism.

I liked Schneizel BECAUSE of how stoic he was. I guess I must be the rare sort of person who finds his eerie calmness interesting. Kinda the same reason why I prefer Celestia to Luna

Like I said, if his stoicism was actually pressured at any point, then it would have been a cool character bit. As it stood, though, he was too perfect. He was never in any danger, and his plans always worked perfectly, so he never was in a situation where he should have been worried, but wasn't. And he cheats at Chess.
