You know, thinking back to the pilot, the has been one question that has bugged me forever, but I keep forgetting about it:

Who the hell was Moondancer?

Obviously she was somepony who was at least good friends with Spike, considering he got her a present for her birthday. She is promptly never mentioned again after that token line, though. I know that it is completely inconsequential, but randomly name dropping a pony who we never see and appears to have ties to the main character is just really odd.

@ Lurker, I don't think she was necessarily a friend of Spikes, just a classmate of Twilight's that politely invited her to a party, and Spike went ahead and got a gift for Twi to give her since he knew she would be to busy studying to think about it.

@crowlover Twinkleshine and Colgate are background ponies with no canon names, and they have appeared multiple times on screen. Moondancer is name dropped as someone close enough for Spike to want to get a gift for and is never seen and never mentioned again. It's just strange, and I find it extremely interesting despite the fact that it was one inconsequential line in the pilot.

Edit: Yeah, it could have been Spike getting the gift because he knew Twilight wouldn't. It's still odd, though.
