I haven't read The Silver Chair in years, but IIRC the brainwashing gambit there was quite a bit more intricate. It's still an interesting connection, though.

@JT Do you mean because the thread does not fit the outside definition of normal, but you could find an inside normal, or that the thread is chaotic enough that it's impossible to find a baseline "normal"?

Well my capital T thing was a reference to the song from The Music Man, and my post after that was a reference to the Flim Flam Brothers's song.

And I referenced The Simpsons spoof of The Music Man with the monorail. I'm the one who brought up Narnia, for the sake of a pun about a "cursed pool."

Yes. Also, since we're talking about dice and cursed pools, why not cursed dice pools?

-ponders if there are cursed pools in Equestria-
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.

@Crow: Both. We're not normal by any outside sense of the word, and we shift gears too often to form a reasonable baseline. I think. I'm sure we could find a few trends if we looked closely enough.

[up][up]Abnormal has become our norm.

[up] And if you put money on a pool that's dicey, the returns'll be all the greater.

Well the solution is to roll out all the 1s. I find marble rolling pins work the best.

What exactly would a cursed pool do? Would it turn everything into gold?
Yeah, Andromeda is heading for you. You got over 9000 years until it collides.
