re: Moe Chrysalis. Yeah, but that rather undermines her personality as seen in the show. She may be looking for "food" (or just power?) for her subjects, but one can't ignore the naked malice she exhibits.

I generally choose not to read fanfics that portray Discord and now Chrysalis (hell, pretty much every villain that isn't canonically portrayed sympathetically) as a sympathetic character, woobie, or anything of the sort. Call me what you will, I just don't like the idea.

I can kind of see how you can make Chrysalis sympathetic, considering how she is responsible to feed a society with a rather specific diet, but that is a rather big stretch. As we saw in the episode, she isn't ashamed of how low she'll go to achieve her goal.

I don't mind sympathetic villain portrayal, so long as at the end of the day they're still evil, and it's because of choices they made.
